I can get to Newport or Huntington in around an hour with the express lane, which was a big selling point for me to move back here instead of staying in NOLA or moving back by my parents in WI.

My wife and her mom visited Fairhope last weekend. They enjoyed it.

I’m curious to hear from the OT... Where do you live and what are the top 3 reasons for choosing to live there.
1. All 8 of her 1st cousins were in attendance at my daughter's 13th birthday yesterday.
2. LSU
3. Familiarity and comfort that comes with living in my 'hometown'
3b. 1 hour from New Orleans
3c. ~4 hours from my favorite beaches in the continental US.

1. Wife's family
2. Our jobs
3. Kids enjoy their schools and friends from school.
We are likely moving out of state once the youngest finishes high school, depending on the health of wife's parents.

North Houston (Spring/The Woodlands)
- O&G Economy.
- Close enough / far away - 4 hour drive (from family).
- Quality of living / price of living.
next would be: better place to raise a family than most of Louisiana. Relatively removed from what comes with living in/near inner city and thus the ghetto. (We will likely move again in the next 5 years to further remove/distance our family from that factor)

....I like where I live. I don't hate it, but I have bitched way too much about Louisiana's weather, heat, mosquitoes, lovebugs, economy, and politics for way too long to truly understand why I still live here.

Like others in BR have said.
Family, Work, LSU.
Especially once we have kids, being close to the grandparents would be important for us.
We always dream about moving to Colorado or Fort Worth to be near friends and get out of LA. But committing to packing up our entire lives and careers is a very high barrier to clear.
