Jim and Dave's Kickin' Chicken on French Bread, a steaming bowl of crab & artichoke soup as an app.
I prefer it on Texas toast with the tenders rolled in buffalo sauce. The Kickin' Chicken quesadilla is damn good too

Anything at Blackened Brew...I eat/drink there at least once a week.
As mentioned, Tommy's for half price pitcher days.
Tope La has Italian night on Thursdays that's really good and their Sunday brunch is excellent.
If you like sushi, I prefer Cate Street Seafood over Kirin but both are good. Cate Street also has a wing night once a week and they're vastly underrated.
My main gripe with food in Hammond is that there aren't any legit Chinese food selections. China Lotus isn't bad, it's just overpriced IMO. Asian Fusion in Ponchy is probably the most consistent and cheap place I've found for Chinese selections.
The new Tru Juice place near Harley Davidson has the best healthy food options in town. Wraps are on point and it's a nice change of pace from everywhere else in town.
I need to try the new BBQ restaurant they opened near campus. BBQ choices also suck in Hammond. Warning: Salty Joes SUCKS. Why people enjoy that trash food is a mystery to me.
Mexican: La Carreta, Adobe (currently renovating), Saritas, or Mi Patio in Ponchatoula. All about the same IMO.
Oh, and don't forget to check out the lunch specials at Berry Town Produce. You'll thank me later

been in Hammond 12 yrs now and love it
avoid all discount retailers and convenience stores and you’ll never see the resident undesirables. Downtown is great and I can be in Covington in 20 mins down 190 or Nola in an hour

35 minutes to Little Chinatown on Williams Boulevard in Kenner.

It’s my favorite thing I’ve read today on the OT. Thanks, Fr33.

Yeah wasn't meant as a slight.

They've got a badass Indian Restaurant in a random gas station off of I-12.

I lived there when I was at SELU, the area between Downtown and SELU used to be really nice. Covington/Madisonville is 25 minutes away.

I will add my recommendation for Tommy’s on Thomas. Best pizza around IMO

My daughter is contemplating a cross country move so I copied it and sent it to her. I told her someone else wrote it not me. Thank you.

Hammond is a wonderful town. It also has one of the top downtown areas in the state and the country.
Don’t believe me? Downtown Hammond finished 4th in the country through great American Main Street. We were also chosen for the 2019 Main Street Preservation Award by the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation.
There are over 29 restaurants in downtown proper. Great private school in Holy Ghost and other great Montessori schools in the area.
Are there areas within Hammond that have issues and need work? Yes, very much. But we are making progress in those areas as well.

And here's an article saying Alexandria is one of America's most romantic getaways. I'm not buying that, either.
One of the better downtowns in Louisiana? Sure, why not. In the country? Come on, man.

Population size, quality of life, etc all play a factor.
I didn’t issue the awards, but I’ll gladly accept them and promote this area because of them.

Welcome to the jewel of the North Shore, Hammond, America. Youll soon enjoy a great living experience. A few things:
#1. Downtown NOLA is like 53 miles from Hammond. It’s not like you can’t be there pretty quickly.
#2. Screw the Haters. It’s a great little town.
#3. Downtown is a neat place especially in the fall and spring. Always something going on.
#4. LaCaretta has good margaritas and live music on the weekends. Sit outside and enjoy.
#5. Cate Street seafood, Kirin, Brady’s, Tommy’s Pizza are all staples of the town. The Kickin Chicken at Mariners is good because the Ranch sauce is awesome. Jacamels is a solid place to take Mrs (or future Mrs) Heaum.
#6. The sidewalk around SELU is exactly 2 miles. You’ll see lots of sights running around there. Speaking of SELU..
#7. It’s a neat little campus that’s had a ton of money dumped into it. Lots of new buildings and upgrades.
#8. Bar scene is strange for a college town. Brown Door is probably your only traditional college bar. A lot of the restaurants convert to bars at night. Red,White, and Brew is a cool little place. Two local breweries in Low Road and gnarly barley.
And, you’ve got both a Home Depot and Lowe’s for all your home improvement needs.
