Born and raised in nola, but haven't been back to LA since the 90s. Never lived on the North Shore, didn't really visit except for the Strawberry Festival with my folks every year. Any good North Shore restaurant/things to do recommendations? I know it's a stretch, but I want to make the most of it.

I plan on getting over to BR for LSU games and for poker, nola for Saints games and poker, and the Miss coast for old peeps and poker. But what's within the immediate area worth checking out? Anything? Good fishing spots? Any hidden food gems?

I don't think Hammond has moved out of the 70's

I do think poker can be played in Hammond, if that helps you.

The north shore is the most up and coming place in south LA. Especially for young and middle age professionals. Lots to do and great distance from the big fun of BR and NOLA.

If I left BR, that’s where I’d go.

You are pretty close to both BR and Nola.

Hammond has a decent little downtown area with a few bars and restaurants.

You could always move out towards Madisonville or somewhere like that if you'd prefer and commute 30 minutes or so.

2 convenient interstates (12/55) basically equidistant to NOLA/BR and a decent sized university. Not quite sure why Hammond hasn’t grown more as a city.

Seriously you could live in any direction 30-40 miles approximately and have a very reasonable commute

Absolutely no way I would live anywhere in Tangi parish tho

I love the centrality of the place. Hoping to be moved in enough to catch the Ole Miss game Sunday. Haven't been on campus since I was enrolled a thousand years ago.

It looks a lot different than it did when I graduated in 2000.

If you leave now, you will probably make it on time for The opener.

Hammond is like little Atlanta. You might make it big and win an award at the parish fair this year, or you might get shot at a redlight. Whatever your dream is, it can happen in Hammond.

I lived in Hammond for 4 years when I attended SLU. It wasn’t that bad and that’s before they developed Hammond Crossing

Hope the move doesn't affect your poker games.

I wouldn’t live in Hammond, get outside the city limits in the Ponchatoula area.

Hammond is nice. Pretty nice little main Street type area. Bars, restaurants etc. Clean. Pretty streets.
TBH I'd take Hammond over Baton Rouge.
