Do these people not realize they don’t actually own Amazon?

Probably not.

Just a sidenote. I called the IRS during the covid shutdown. A democrat answered the phone, "IRS". Told her my issue and she asked my name. common name. she said, Just a minute." Kids were screaming in the background. Many kids. I heard her say, "whats your name?...speaking to a kid." After 10 minutes she came back, and said "Im still researching, this, a minute." 10 more minutes of her tending to the kids. Comes back on and says, "you are going to have to wait another week and call back if you haven't received a letter." Mind you, she didn't ask for any ss#, address, phone number, just my name.

Hussy was running a daycare while on the gov payroll. Called the next day and got a different person who gave me the answer in 5 min

I pretty much know you're wrong.

Hybrid works just fine. The majority of people bitching are those who are saving money on childcare costs who are still 100% remote

If we have a recession, which is probably likely, these people will be early at the office when they realize they can't just leave the company and find a comparable replacement. Ultimately they may have some power in a good labor market but they'll have none in a bad one.

Are those well-paid people working on a computer in an office surrounded by other people working on computers?

Or maybe people aren’t working as much as they claim they are when they are working from home?

If their boss wasn’t aware or didn’t correct this, how will being in the office change it?

Show Up In Office 3 Days Per Week

If it was 5 days/wk I'd probably side with the employees, but 3? You kidding me?

People have become too comfortable with...well being comfortable. Get up, get dressed and talk to people.

of course, the way out is to not hire any employees who need structure, but that wasn’t easily done the last few years.

Yeah I think this is a huge oversimplification that gets repeated by a lot of folks. It sounds great in theory - “if they need someone looking over their shoulder, get rid of them” - but reality presents other problems.

First off, it’s naive for people to think you can run a massive company without any underachievers / under-motivated employees on the payroll. If you fire everyone who needs close supervision, a couple of things will happen:
1. Your high performers get burned out because they’re always taking in even more work due to being understaffed while you hire/train replacements.
2. You have to pay more to get that top talent, if you’re going to be more selective than your peer companies. At some point the added labor cost offsets any productivity boost.
3. If every company tries to do it, it becomes impossible anyway because the talent pool is only so big.

Second, it’s not that easy for companies - especially big publicly traded companies - to simply cut bait with anyone who underperforms without constant supervision. Those big HR departments, while a pain in the arse, exist for a reason. They have to make sure that the company isn’t running afoul of labor laws. They have to make sure managers aren’t wrongfully firing people under cover of “low productivity.” For-cause terminations are intentionally burdensome to keep them from getting sued.

Third, if everyone is constantly worried about getting shite-canned then you’re creating a pretty toxic work environment. That can run off high performers as well.

So it’s a balancing act. These companies have to make some compromises. The best option for the company as a whole might not be fair to everyone who works there.

My day to day contacts at Amazon are buyers, advertising, content, etc… they have nothing to do with delivery or warehouses or servers or any of that. These people sit at a computer all day, talking to people like me in other states. It is retarded to think it matters where they sit to have phone calls.

This message board has a big knowledge gap when it comes to how companies operate outside of service, manufacturing, and other manual labor fields.

Yep. I was part of the pre-covid discussions that turned it into a piece if shite. My wife's there now so I get to overhear the dumb decisions that keep it a piece of shite. And all of those people make more than $15/hr packing boxes

This is simple. If 95%+ of your job requires you to use a computer or a computer is the best method of completing the work, then there is no fricking reason to drive into an office and sit around a bunch of other people on computers.

Simple enough that .. if you don't have to come into work to do your job .. they can / and will find someone else that won't show up and do the same job .. for less pay .. to do the same work you do. It's called outsourcing.

People don't realize that they are most definitely replaceable and there are a lot of people out there that would gladly do the job for less. Moreso when they complain publicly about the company that pays them. When all the company wants is for the people they hired to do the job.

Isn’t the tech sector experiencing massive layoffs? And these folks are going to “revolt” over in-office vs. WFH?

95% of my amazon deliveries are same day. If I order something in the morning I usually get it by 6 or 7 PM. If I order something before bed it's usually on my porch when I wake up.
