It depends, usually not. A UFC chick like Rhonda Rousey could likely beat to death a small slightly built weak man and he would be justified in trying his best to defend himself.
An in shape decent sized man when confronted with a typical smaller weak woman however should exercise proper restraint to defuse the situation, immobilizing her if a retreat is not workable with out administering an unwarranted beat down.

If it were my mom, id be mad at the situation and ger being hurt. I would NOT blame the guy (not knowing complete context herr, etc)

If a woman decides she thinks it's OK to swing at me, she's going to find out real quick what a mistake that was. I will absolutely defend myself.
Most of those women don't realize the average guy can snap their neck without a thought. It doesn't take being the Rock. Men are inherently more muscular in ways they don't seem to truly fathom. They think they do, but they do not.

Depends on the situation. Most women can be handled without throwing hands. However I have seen big arse black queens who wanna fight…. And you better be prepared to throw hands or you will lose that fight real fast.

Knew a guy who took jabs from his wife for about 10 years. When he finally had enough, he decked her one time and knocked her out. He did get charged with assault.
