What is the rule with kids and cell phones at school these days? Are they allowed to bring them and have them on during the day?

If you were married to a teacher, it might make sense. Most good teachers work very hard, harder than most people I suspect, plus they have to put up with complaining parents and burdensome administrative work that they didn't sign up for.

are we just calling stuff we dont like to deal with things that we "didnt sign up for" cause i have a whole lotta that.

ive been surrounded by teachers in my family/relationships my whole life and while they work hard - the drama level on EVERYTHING is extremely high.

I don't have a clue, I imagine most schools have a rule where they're not allowed. But we're talking about punk kids here, I'm sure they'll figure out some way to hide it or play on it anyway.

Depends on the district. Some are piloting a BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) program in which students are allowed to use their phones in class for school related activities. I know one school that's doing it, and, for the most part, teachers there hate it. It's impossible to monitor what 30 kids are doing on their phones at one time.

This has been my experience with the teachers in my family.

In most places they allow high schoolers to bring them, but they are not supposed to use them while on campus. Middle school and down, they are not supposed to have them.

Why do you "teaching is such hard work" proponents have to resort to this hyperbole?

So, most good teachers work harder than most people (excluding, you know, the summers off, the spring and winter breaks, and numerous other holidays). Got it.

I agree. I'm not jealous of anyone who will more than likely never make more than $70k.

And here's where the OT complains more about teachers than teachers actually complain themselves.

I only taught one year, and it was at a really rough school, but I always thought my pay was decent. It is a lot of long hours though, and a lot of the time the kids are off, the teachers are still working. Even during the summer, there are mandatory workshops and work in your classroom.
Maybe if I had taught a higher grade and my other grade level teachers would have been more seasoned, it wouldn't have been so difficult. Almost every day was a 5am - 9pm work day. And lots of Sundays were spent working as well.
And I know lots of people put in those kind of hours, but they aren't people making 32 a year, lol.

You have no idea how hard being a teacher is. They have to grade papers until 5, sometimes 6 pm. I'd like to see you show that dedication and sacrifice for 8 whole months a year.

This. But also the fact that teaching is probably the most stressful job out there. I taught for about 4 weeks and when I quit, suicide was on my mind.

Teachers are absolutely powerless to everyone, the administration, politicians, students, parents. They get blamed for everything and have to take it on the chin. I understand that there are some people who just want to educate our kids, but I don't know for the life of me how anyone puts up with all the bullshite.

I'm a financial advisor now and my job is 1000x less stressful than when I taught. Even if the market tanks, which I have no control over, I will still be less stressed than those 4 weeks I taught.
