Not everyone has to file a federal income tax return. You're under no obligation to "check in" with the government every year and tell them you didn't have any income. Kids who don't work don't file federal income tax returns. Heck, little old ladies who scrape by on $11,000 / year often don't have to file.

A whole lot of 2nd Amendment fans will staunchly disagree with this. They strongly believe Waco was a result of ATF overreach.
Ironic that we had a law enforcement agency for Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (all three are legal) with a $1.6 billion budget in 2024.
Capone, Leona Helmsley, Jim Thorpe, Pete Rose, DMX, Fat Joe, Ja Rule all thought they did not have to pay taxes, too.

I used to work with a guy like that. He did a lot of research on it. Showed me a check once from government saying he got his taxes refunded back to him.
