re: National Guard soldier leaves AR-15 in New Orleans bathroom
Posted by GeauxGriff on 2/10/26 at 9:44 am to northshorebamaman
This is correct. The M4 is an AR-15. Different stock and barrel but the DI/internal piston that is the heart of the rifle is the same.
The M4 is actually one of the last true AR platform rifles still in service. The HK 416 the marines use and the new Sig M7 rifle they are trying to make work in the army are short stroke piston guns.

re: RMR Red Dot?
Posted by GeauxGriff on 2/8/26 at 2:26 pm to RetiredSaintsLsuFan
RMR footprint optics mount directly onto a slide cut to fit it or use an adapter plate system. The original dot that popularized the mounting method is made by trijicon, and it is expensive. Lots of other companies make dots that use the RMR footprint now, though.
M&Ps do come in optic ready variants that come with a number of plastic adapters you can use, including RMR, or you can get an aftermarket metal plate.
If you don’t have an optic ready variant, you’re kind of SOL unless you have your slide milled or replaced. Might as well get another gun at that point.

re: Investing in rental properties vs s&p index fund

If you only have $80k to work with you’re not simply exchanging an asset for an asset. You’re going to be servicing debt on the mortgage you will need to cover the balance. Then the issue is not only does the investment have to outperform the S&P, it has to cover those maintenance and upkeep expenses too.
The S&P has been performing well and index funds have super cheap service fees. I don’t see a portfolio of 100% residential rentals beating that consistently over time. Ever.
If you want to diversify your portfolio to include real estate down the road, that’s another story, but I wouldn’t go all in on it.

Flavor wise it won’t matter. Only thing to keep in mind is olive oil has a relatively low smoke point and can turn if heated too high. Again, though, you’ll be good as long as you’re on top of your temp and don’t try to rush.

Not sure what the mounting solution they use on the APX is but Holosun has options with the RMR footprint that’ll be good enough for the vast majority of people. Vortex is starting to have options too now and their warranties are great.

re: St. George update - La. SC denies City of BR's writ application in annexation case

The dispute is over an area off Essen/United Plaza and around the Woman’s Hospital campus. BTR annexed them after the vote but before SG had the capacity to challenge the annexations.

I think the result of his shot speaks for itself. 800 yards is hard to justify. I don’t care if you’re out west or on the moon.

What’s wrong with the exemption on cap gains from sale of a primary residence we already have?

It’s like pornography. I don’t know what the precise definition is, but I definitely know it when I see it.

I am pretty sure each of the episodes were shot in a single take, which is impressive from a filmmaking standpoint I guess.
Otherwise I agree the story was ultimately underwhelming and I found myself wishing I had spent the time watching doing something else.

Not a gunsmith, but from what I understand the 320 the 365 are not the same design. The 320 has “fire control unit” that is supposed to marry up with components in the slide. The failures are probably from poor machine tolerances that cause those parts to not engage properly. Lots of videos of guys barely manipulating the trigger while tapping on the slide and… pow.

Hypo based law school exams aren’t so much about a right or wrong answer. You’re graded on how you spot issues, identify the applicable law learned over the course of the semester, and apply it to the facts within the limited amount of time allowed. Your answer actually ends up being pretty formulaic. The silly hypos like this are just as much to keep you sane as they are a vehicle of loading lots of issues into a single scenario.

Don’t be gaslit. If your definition of “crime” is the possibility of imprisonment rather than merely a “civil” monetary fine, the improper entry into the USA by an alien, the fraudulent use of marriage to avoid immigration laws, and the establishment of a commercial enterprise to avoid immigration laws all have both criminal and civil penalties under 8 USC 1325.

I got one over the summer as an impulse buy. Once you get a handle on the ratios of booze and sugar down in your recipes you can make drinks as good or better than your favorite daquiri or margarita. I’ve used it more than I thought I would. Have not tried milkshakes though.
