re: Embattled LSU Law Professor's Final Exam
Posted by GeauxGriff on 2/17/25 at 1:05 pm
Hypo based law school exams aren’t so much about a right or wrong answer. You’re graded on how you spot issues, identify the applicable law learned over the course of the semester, and apply it to the facts within the limited amount of time allowed. Your answer actually ends up being pretty formulaic. The silly hypos like this are just as much to keep you sane as they are a vehicle of loading lots of issues into a single scenario.

Don’t be gaslit. If your definition of “crime” is the possibility of imprisonment rather than merely a “civil” monetary fine, the improper entry into the USA by an alien, the fraudulent use of marriage to avoid immigration laws, and the establishment of a commercial enterprise to avoid immigration laws all have both criminal and civil penalties under 8 USC 1325.

I got one over the summer as an impulse buy. Once you get a handle on the ratios of booze and sugar down in your recipes you can make drinks as good or better than your favorite daquiri or margarita. I’ve used it more than I thought I would. Have not tried milkshakes though.

At that size he’s more of a Grant Delpit than a boundary corner.

Revenue sharing is about to kick in so, in a way, yes.

Meh. I’d hope a law student is capable of filtering out snowflake rants like this. Also, how many Trump supporting students are taking climate change law as their elective?

Instead of having to buy a variety of stocks yourself in order to diversify your portfolio, an ETF simplifies things sells shares of a fund that owns a certain variety of stocks. A broad market ETF owns a large portfolio of a wide variety of companies across industry sectors. Some even own a little bit of everything on a given exchange.

Well, depending on his circumstances the first thing he may want to do is investigate whether he’d be better served finding an employer that offers retirement benefits. Employer match on pretax income going into a 401k or IRA adds up.
If he is working as a contractor or is placed in a situation where he’s earning significantly more than other employers offering benefits are paying, then he can simply open his own account with any of the big brokerage firms, buy into an index fund monthy, and fight the urge to tinker.

re: What is statute of limitations in Louisiana for home service and repair related work

3492 was actually just repealed so depending on when the damage occurred this may no longer be accurate.
Torts and property damage claims are now subject to a 2 year prescriptive period under articles 3493.1 and 3493.2 effective 7/1/24.

re: In the market for a house...

That estimate is actually pretty close.
My point was is that the OP is currently relatively cash rich, maxing out various investment accounts, and seems to be enjoying a good quality of life. He shouldn’t jeopardize that by getting himself stuck under a $500k house at a high interest rate.

You make over 160k and feel like you can barely afford a ~1400 mortgage payment?
After factoring in property taxes, homeowners insurance, truck note, maxing out retirement accounts, and maintaining a healthy emergency cash buffer while living the quality of lifestyle I enjoy… yes. I spend significantly more on all these things combined and “paying myself first” than I do on my house note.

You’re grossly underestimating your future expenses.
I make more than you and your spouse combined and I feel like I can barely afford my $325k house at 2.5% interest once I factor in household and personal expenses. You’ll be shocked how easy it is to have a couple consecutive months of having your AC die, your vehicle need a repair, and some other unanticipated expense and all the sudden you feel like you’re living paycheck to paycheck.

re: Northwestern Cuts Deal. Gives Full-Ride Scholarship for Palestinian Students

Northwestern’s enrollment is approx. 21k. The morons were convinced to pack up their tents in exchange for a completely token gesture. 5 scholarships is fractions of a percent of the total student body. Most students will graduate without ever running into these “bonus” Palestinians.
