Bullet resistant not bullet proof.
Point being that the glass is that much more sturdy and difficult to break with an improvised breaching device in order to get to the inside (or get to the outside if a student is trying to escape the classroom).
Edit: Assuming that a gunman spraying the windows with bullets is a threat (although I’ve never actually heard of a school shooter attacking in such a way), then feel free to keep them bullet resistant.
But at least have a lever available to outwardly open the window for students to use if they need to make a quick escape.

It’s amazing how all of a sudden this board has gone from the opinion that the NYT is trash to quoting every single article the NYT publishes about it.
Imagine that. The merits of what’s being reported is what normal people judge and not categorically dismissing or accepting information based on the source.
Weird.

Obviously in a perfect world first responders are on site and engaging within, I don't know, 10 minutes? Also I assume most classrooms have exterior walls with glass that just your regular tempered glazing for exterior. Might be had to break from the inside but LE rtools can easily break from outside.

These schools are currently soft targets and the known presence of armed staff would be enough to make these freaks reconside
Then we’ll move on to day care centers, ball fields, summer camps, etc. Hardening school defenses is a part of the solution, but it’s not the whole thing.
This is going to be like whack-a-mole until we fix the fatherless young disturbed male problem.

That would be optimal. Average active shooter situations are over in 10-15 minutes.

So they had proper training. Which means they likely were ordered not to go in by the chief. Also for those who think cops “won’t follow orders” if ever told to confiscate firearms this should show you they would do it. If they won’t disobey orders to save children, they won’t disobey them for anything. Their meager paycheck means more than innocent kids or your rights. Let that sink in and realize where we are as a nation
In case anyone has forgotten: a mass illegal gun confiscation of law abiding citizens led by local law enforcement has already occurred in this country. New Orleans, 2005.
If given the order, police WILL mobilize to violate your constitutionally protected natural rights.

The trainings included both classroom teachings and role-playing scenarios inside school hallways (below).
Apparently this is all the Ulvade Police Department is there to do.
A bunch of cowards role-playing at being LEO.

Didn’t their CO tell them to not move in?
The world as a whole has already determined that this is not an adequate defense.
It is your ethical responsibility to disobey any orders that you know to be illegal or morally wrong.
Put me down in the camp that believes those officers who refused to act in the defense of pre-teen children as being morally wrong.

(I AM NOT SAYING THE FOLLOWING AS A STATEMENT OF CONSPIRACY THEORY/FALSE FLAG.) Since the shooting how many times have we heard about Title 42? How about gas about to top $5? Joe's record disapproval ratings have surely been discussed, right? How about that $40b we are sending to Ukraine? The Democrats in DC have every reason to keep their sick focus on this tragedy to shield what is going on in Washington.
All 19 of those officers outside the door should arrested immediately, tried, and punished to the fullest extent of the law. We need to salt the earth with this cowardly police department.
So here is a big question. Abbott is not going to screw around with Texas State Rangers who didn't move in. They'll be dealt with. Any local police who made the decision THEMSELVES to not go in are probably already driving a U-haul out of town. What about the border patrol agents? Are they the Democrats' scapegoats? They will be used & abused by this administration when the focus starts to turn back to the border.
I think the mayor spoke for the country with his response to Beta and by extension everyone who is politicizing it. All of them are sick son of a bitchs.

I don’t understand funneling entrances through a single path into a school. Every classroom should have a door leading outside. It’s proper fire safety let alone school shooting safety to quickly evacuate in a moment’s notice.
But it also leaves the rooms that much more susceptible to a teacher slipping out to grab a cell phone or prop open a door to 'get some air.'
There are pros and cons to both scenarios. The Texas strategy lost last week but it doesn't mean it's the lessor of a strategy.

Honestly, if you were to associate this as a conspiracy, it would make more sense that it's a conservative managed one.
The fact the cops did nothing makes a stronger case for those who believe that everyone should be armed, not just the police.
But that's stupid too.

My personal political views have been at odds with those of the NYT since graduating college in the late 80's. Yet, I still read the Times and actually subscribed to the Sunday edition up until about 10 years ago. My politics haven't changed much in that time. Theirs hasn't either, but they have blatantly chosen to take it from the OpEd page where it belonged and insert it through out the entire paper. As a Journalism grad, it really sucks to have watched it happen with them and 95% of all other forms of print media as well. And to be fair, it has happened in the fewer right leaning publications in existence as well.
Happening all throughout the media. People no longer want balance, they want THEIR point of view to dominate not the an article that says "on the one hand this....on the other hand that...".
They measure TV viewing with people meters. I know this for a fact that when Fox viewers are show liberal stuff or vice-versa on MSNBC there is massive turning off of the show.

There should be a moral and legal obligation to not publish the shooters name. These people are looking for infamy as they go out in a narcissistic flame; And we continuously provide it. The person should be referred to by a number and no pictures provided. This would take away a large part of their motivation.

I've been a Republican my entire life. Both Tucker and especially Ingraham make me flip the channel. O'Reilly-Kelly-Hannity was the best lineup they had because none of them were far right loons.

The NYT has become the print version of MSDNC. Like CNN they used to be good with straight news and leaving the opinions to the opinion page. CNN's website is pretty good with news if you know how to sift through the BS.
If the media was still reporting just the facts I think it would be easier for Congress to work. Easier for Democrats to address non-gun control solutions and Republicans to meet them with background checks and red flag laws WITH DUE PROCESS mandated within 72 hours.
Regardless, the common denominator between Uvalde and Parkland are cops who are cowards when most needed. They need to make an example of them. Either you're a cop who is there to PROTECT and serve or you need to find another career. The cover-up LE tried to pull over on Abbott is criminal.

If we did what I called for the Broward Cowards and am currently calling for here, this would have never happened. The cops would have busted down that door within five fricking seconds whether they wanted to or not if we gave the Broward Cowards the punishment they deserved. Firing is not good enough. 20 years in jail in the very least and an extensive media thrashing for everyone involved. Their names and faces should be on the front page of the New York Times for a month with the victims names and faces posted on the back of the paper.

We have set such a bad precedent with Covid. You heard all the time “Rules are rules”, “they’re just following orders”, and “It’s just…. that’s all we ask.” Just 15 days to slow the spread, right? We in near complete tyranny now, and would be if it weren’t for Trump’s Supreme Court picks. If Hillary had been elected, Covid broke out, and she had been re-elected, tens of millions of Americans would have been fired from their jobs if they did not want to go through with an experimental medical procedure.
