They will have to attend St. Joseph's Academy, an all-girls private school in the St. George area.
This is hilarious. Even if SJA were in St. George, saying they would “have” to attend is straight up bizarre. Is SJA public now?
I’m guessing the family of this Evans chick they interviewed doesn’t even live in St. George.

It’s still going off a false premise to begin with because the St George incorporation has nothing to do with a school system, yet at least.
St George would still be in EBRPSS until a constitutional amendment passed allowing the new district.
So, in other words, it is poorly researched at best and intentional disinformation and scare tactics at worst.
And the Advocate article is quick to point out that voting for the new city does not create a school district, yet they post another article talking about how well-funded school district may see rising costs if it turns out as good as expected...

As Zachary will clearly point out, a great school system acts as a magnet bringing people to the area, boosting property values and revenues for a lot of local businesses.
There will be costs related to schools and infrastructure but that is due to growth in the area. And St George is fairly stagnant as of now specifically because it is tied to the millstone that is the EBRPSS.

Who cares what the reveille says man? Why are you reading a college newspaper?
A friend of mine sent me the link, I enjoyed the Reveille in the late 80 when it was just fun.

What’s the name of the racist who wrote the article?

The picture they have on their article of St. G is WRONG. The whole shitty written article is misleading and wrong. Not surprised.

“ This sinister and outdated tactic, known as gerrymandering “.
“It is without a doubt “
“ perpetual racism “
LOL.
FTR, my kids aren’t “ white “ , they are biracial, they all attended or attend Baton Rouge public schools, and we favor St George.
The author of that shabbily written Marxist diatribe should educate itself. Or not. Don’t really care.

All it tells me is that the Whole fricking Manship Family wasted their money by supporting the journalism school at LSU.

The only people that have gerrymandered anything is the city of BR by annexing the commercial areas of SG
Don’t forget the folks behind the CATS tax.
They excluded SG from that vote even though we receive bus service.

I hardly recognize Central anymore from what it looked like in the 80s.

I’ve given up, I’m all the bad things liberal politicians and SJW’s say about me. I cannot win because I am a white male living in the USA and, extra negative strike, I am Southern and educated.

Central, Baker, Sherwood Forest, Broadmoor, Belaire. Tara neighborhood has held out (for now) but the school is 1000% changed.

I'm not sure why the author thinks the kids would HAVE to go the SJA.
It's not like SJA has a district that feeds kids to them, it's a private school.

Sounds like the South Park episode on digital music theft.
“If everyone downloads her album, she won’t get the full Gulfstream, she will have to settle for the smaller model.”
Having to go from BRMHS to St Joe is falling upward.

Tara isn’t going to go downhill. Home prices are still going up in the neighborhood even though it’s in its 4th-5th gen. The neighborhood itself is too centrally located to depreciate like some neighborhoods a little farther north.

It's in LSU best interest if thr city of BR doesn't fall into more dispare.
Posted on 9/23/19 at 11:24 am to SuperSaint
And it will fall into more disrepair if St George fails and the people in that area says “Livingston and Ascension sound good right about now.”
St George may cut BR’s budget but keeping that money in the parish doesn’t hurt nearly as bad as it leaving the parish.
At which point the metro council likely push a “city tax” on people working in BR but living elsewhere, similar to what exists in places like NYC where people move out to the suburbs due to costs.
