You remember incorrectly. It was globally the hottest summer ever recorded and only a few places on earth (the east coast of the US being one of them) weren't significantly hotter than average.
You've been fed a whole pile of bullshite, and you've bit so hard that you've swallowed the hook. The funny part is, you don't even realise that you're hooked.
ETA: Where I am last Summer finished as the 39th warmest on record, tied with 1957 and just ahead of 1908. Every single Summer month was below normal for high temp.
Everyone can't be like AwgustaDawg and convince themselves that they were suffering through a heatwave last Summer just because the media convinced them they were. His area also had below normal highs for three out of four Summer months. September was .6° above normal. But, it was, "Hotter than hell and humid as shite." he said.

It's honestly felt noticeably hotter when I was a kid in Birmingham. I remember it regularly going over 100F but that's much more rare now

Interesting thing about temperature.
It can be measured. Is the average temp going up globally?
Yes. Not sure how people argue this.

This is the reality. Part of the evolution of a technologically progressing society is that as we fix and cure a lot of shite, we find shite to worry about just to fill the time.

Well, they keep going back into history and lowering temperatures, so I’m not sure if it is really getting hotter. Also, you’re taking more temperatures in urban areas (concrete jungles) that hold heat and create higher temperature readings. It has gotten so political I find it difficult to trust anyone on the matter. However, if it is getting hotter it’s a very small increase over a long period of time, so I’m not really that concerned.

Just bc you write, “INB4” and type like a middle school girl doesn’t make what you posted correct nor the counterpoint incorrect.

I am a lot fatter than when I was a kid so it feels hotter to me

it can be measured and recorded.
is the average HIGH temperature going up?
no, not really:
Average Temperature in New Orleans by Year
quote:
This page contains a list of the average yearly high and low temperatures in New Orleans, Louisiana for each year between 1893 and 2023. It is based on NOAA data.
we had a very mild winter last year which brings the yearly average up.
but the average high temp was right in line with where it has been for over a century now.

Ridiculous. The summers weren't cool during my days growing up in SWLA. I was told 'go outside' most mornings and stayed outside most of the day. I drank water out of the hose (ala Ben McDonald). I was acclimated.

No one can argue with a straight face it’s not hotter now.
In Texas the winters are way shorter now. We usually get one weeklong “arctic blast” and the rest of the season might as well be south Florida.
Nights don’t cool down nearly as much. Sometimes our morning lows are higher than the average high.
Things are more extreme. We’ll go months without rain, record droughts, and then get a record 12 inches of rain in 2 days.
Whether you believe humans are causing it depends on what news and information you consume.

Recorded History in Dallas (just grabbed a big Texas city, you can add your in the search box if you want more specific to you) says otherwise
Average Temperature in Dallas by Year
I'd throw 1939 out since it is so ridiculously far out of whack from everything else.
but everything else for the last century is right about where it has always been. right around 80° as the yearly average.
want to look at just the month of July in Dallas?
what about just the month of August in Dallas?
(again, throw out '39 for being so ridiculously out of range)

yes, winters have definitely trended shorter and milder recently than they have in the past. Which raises the yearly average.
but summer time highs aren't significantly different than they have been for 100 years now.
So no, it's not hotter in the summer now than it was back in the day.
It's just not as frigid in the winter anymore.
