Ok baws. Let's create an apparel line consortium startup, South Butt.

This isn't surprising. Patagonia has been doing this for years.
frick north face and Patagonia. Patagonia HQ is in Ventura, CA and less than a mile from massive oil fields. They constantly get high school kids to protest oil and gas companies. They hand out fact sheets that are outright lies like oil production causes natural seepage and caused rivers to run dry, the river has been dry for 100 years and is just there for run off.
Any court case and these assholes protest and shout out front. Patagonia sells some very nice outdoor clothing, but there are other outfitters that aren’t elitist, hypocritical douchebags.

Sounds like upstream production needs to not sell to The North Face and/or they need to come up with alternative materials.

I wonder how much petroleum products go into their clothes

Why? There are other quality jacket companies.

North face quality is shite these days. Last good jacket I got from them was back in 2009 or so.

Reminds me of the stupid leftists that took their kayaks out to a rig to protest O&G, not realizing, of course, that just about everything they owned was a result of the work those companies had done.
Leftists aren't here to create anything. They only destroy with their stupidity.

Yeah, why would you want to do business with a company that's basically telling you to frick off?
Posted on 12/11/20 at 9:19 am to JasonHotWheelsStreet
These companies always do publicity stunts like this but don’t look internally about how royally fricked they would be without the oil industry. Does North Face not employ trucking companies? Do executives fly on planes? Pussy hypocrites.

Oh, I really hope they won't.
I won't and maybe you won't either.

ISWYDT but South Baw has a nice ring to it.

Well, nylon and polyester are both derived from crude oil. So, that accounts for the entirety of the shell, fleece lining, insulated lining, and zippers. Then you have the synthetic rubber for cinch cords, waist bands, and sleeve bands.
I'd say pretty close to, if not actually, 100% of the material construction of a North Face jacket is derived from crude oil.

This world is traveling down a very slippery, expensive slope chasing a "greener" energy. Buckle up.
But most aren't chasing greener energy. They are just trying to get extra SJW/woke points by pretending to care about the planet. You pointed out exactly why they don't truly care about it...everything they use comes directly or indirectly from O&G. But that doesn't have the same ring to it as "We denied your order because you are O&G" and they couldn't report it in the media (or social media) the same way to get the attention and pretend admiration they desire.

Even if energy were 'green', the raw materials for most of their products are derived from hydrocarbons, as noted in OP.
Now if they develop a line of clothing, camping and hiking gear that's durable, waterproof and devoid of any oil-based materials, more power to them.
My heart breaks...for not one of these idiots!

I just buy my “North Face” gear in a Hong Kong back alley. It usually falls apart within a month, but I could hook them up.
