Innovex Downhole Solutions says it was recently denied an order of jackets by The North Face, a popular outdoor recreation company because they are in the oil and gas business.

quote:

The company providing the jackets said The North Face doesn’t want to support the oil and gas industry in the same way they’d reject the porn industry or tobacco industry.

“They told us we did not meet their brand standards,”

We'll probably see more and more companies conduct business in this completely asinine way, all to vilify the very industry it was born from. What is the main product in waterproof clothing? Hydrocarbons.
Zippers? Hydrocarbons.
Plastics? Hydrocarbons.
Shipping your product around the world? Hydrocarbons.
How your customers get to 'extreme' locations around the world? Hydrocarbons.

This world is traveling down a very slippery, expensive slope chasing a "greener" energy. Buckle up.

North Face is the last brand I go to when I backpack. They can’t really move further down the list than last

Its ok, they'll just go to a local shop or order from an advertising company and get North Face regardless

Not ordering from carhartt seems like a breach of baw code. Deserved.

Someone will be here shortly to make a snarky comment about libertarians and capitalism.

Am I a dumbass for thinking they could try and make the orders in personal names versus the company's name? If successful I'd have all the employees wear the jackets with all their oil and gas operations in the background and keep tagging The North Face on social media.

Even if energy were 'green', the raw materials for most of their products are derived from hydrocarbons, as noted in OP.

Now if they develop a line of clothing, camping and hiking gear that's durable, waterproof and devoid of any oil-based materials, more power to them.

Until then, suck it North Face.

This isn't surprising. Patagonia has been doing this for years.
