The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has lowered the recommended age of colorectal cancer screenings to 45 due to a rise in colorectal cancer cases among the younger population.

An independent group of experts that advises the nation on preventive medical services has lowered the recommended age for adults to begin regular screenings for colorectal cancer from 50 to 45.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has given this recommendation for people without symptoms who are at average risk of getting colorectal cancer.

Those with a personal or family history of colorectal cancer, of inflammatory bowel disease or of a genetic disorder that makes them more likely to get colorectal cancer, such as Lynch syndrome, are encouraged to get screened sooner than age 45.

The USPSTF updated its guideline primarily because more people are developing colorectal cancer at a younger age.

8% false negative rate for cologuard

If you're okay with those odds of possibly missing colon cancer, go for it, but a colonoscopy is significantly more reliable.

Had one at 36. Long family history. No health issues, pretty clean diet, not overweight, don't really drink, don't smoke, had 9 polyps. none were to the point of precancerous, but i don't think i'd have made it to 50, the recommended age at the time.

Gotcha. Unfortunately some people are very reluctant to get a colonoscopy so this we serve as a option for those who wouldn’t never get a one at all .... but isn’t as good.

Long family history

Several family members? Think my grandma had it in her 70s so I guess I do have some family history

Had my first at 50. Was not excited about the prospect but drinking the prep was the worst part.

The procedure was not bad at all, don't remember a thing. Propofol rocks.

All clear and the Doc said come back in five years whether or not the insurance says to.

I've had it. There's nothing to it. It's actually kind of relaxing if you like propofol.

As someone who had colon cancer at 36 I suggest all get a colonoscopy at whatever age.

I'm still hoping that at some point in the next 9 years the technology will be reliable enough that they can just quickly CT scan my arse to see if there's anything to worry about or not.

Need to schedule mine, I'm 40 and have family history as well. Easily managed if caught early.

I get that you are joking but having seen a friend from work go through colon cancer I would not be opposed to getting checked every year. That shite is devastating.

That and some insurance counts the cologuard as your screening test and make you pay for a follow up diagnostic colon out of pocket if cologuard comes back positive. Enjoy getting that bill and having to have the colonoscopy anyway.
