Lost my Mom to colon cancer at 42. I’ll have to have one before I’m 30.

Martini, did you have any symptoms of colon cancer before the screening?

Well good. Can I get back the out of pocket money I paid at age 48 a couple years ago when I had mine done? Had to pay OOP because I had a little blood in the stool and insurance didn't cover it because I had symptoms, instead of it being just a routine test. frick insurance.

My dad's practicioner recommended this since it was cheaper/less invasive. The results read something like this

There's a 10% chance that everything's fine
There's a 60% chance that you have precancerous polyps
There's a 30% chance you have colon cancer

The numbers aren't 100% accurate, but the results are pretty general, and not really all that settling. He got a colonoscopy and was cleared.

It's not a big deal at all. The prep is the worst.

yeah. not eating is the worst. i had to start liquid diet at 10am. Ate a big breakfast before. Drank a ton of water and clear powerade. at like 3pm i was starving. My wife made some beef broth and i closed my eyes and "chewed" every bite

drank the first bottle of stuff at 6pm and held on for dear life until 10pm. slept fine all night. woke up at 5am and drank the second bottle. second rodeo last til 9am. scope was at 10. went back, they turned me on my side and i woke up in recovery. We went straight to walkons and i crushed a hangover burger.

During routine yearly physicals doctors put "used car" pressure on men to get these, they must make a ton of money off these procedures.

If your G.P. is doing colonoscopies, you have more problems than being upsold on medical care.

Nothing is going to save these unfortunate souls, because there has to be a realistic age to recommend first screening.

I think 45, or immediately upon any symptoms, is a solid place to be for the general public

I personally am getting one at 40 because of family history

No thanks! Being sodomized with a foreign object sucks at any age.

The frick am I wearing this watch for?

I have an Oura Ring that would theoretically be easier to shove up a rectum, but the risk of losing it up there is higher than with a watch.

Smart anal beads? I'm sure they already exist.

I my brother was diagnosed with colon cancer at 46. He fought it hard for 3 years. The last year was really terrible.
Can’t describe what he went through but it makes me tear up thinking about it.
In a few months it will be 4 years.

I got my 1st colonoscopy when he was 1st diagnosed. That was 6 years ago. Had my 2nd one done 2 years ago. Both times they a few polyps and removed them.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

Blood in the stool happens but plenty of times does not. It is often seen in advanced cancers. This is the most preventable cancer there is as if precancerous polyps are snipped the risk of developing cancer is really low.

A colonoscopy is diagnostic and therapeutic. Cologuard and fobt are “hopefully” diagnostic.

Best part...Propofol. It was glorious...for those 6 or 7 seconds I was still awake to be embraced by the warm hug which overtook me thank to it running into my veins

Just had my second colonoscopy of my career this week and I completely agree about the propofol. Those few seconds are something to experience. I could certainly see how one could get addicted to that feeling.

Not sure that this is true but I’ve heard that if your having symptoms of colon cancer then your chance of survival is around 10%

I felt same way for my first one. In all honestly the worst part is not being able to eat for about 24 hours and the liquid flush is not all that fun either but the doctor / procedure is by far the easiest part of the whole experience.

As a 4 yr colorectal cancer survivor I recommend it. Multiple open abdominal surgeries, chemo and some radiation.I now have to get them even 3 years, but I have to get a flex sigmoidoscope every 6 months. Aggies would enjoy, no wonderful propofol, just get the scope with a little lube while fully awake. But I have to say I am blessed.

Man I'm so sorry. My step dad and long time neighbor both had it.

I'm almost five years out from lymphoma. Gonna go get a scope asap (46).
