The state only has 10,500 doses of Moderna’s vaccine to deliver to pharmacies, and north of 640,000 people are eligible to receive them right off the bat. That means demand will likely greatly outstrip supply.

The problem with any government agency or government-funded agency is that most of those in charge of decision-making have always worked in government.

Gov't is the least effective and least efficient medium to try and get anything done other than maybe taxation, imprisoning people, and killing people.

I like how almost all the ones in BR are in heavily "urban" areas
I actually thought this morning when I heard they were picking the pharmacies today that they better pick them all in North BR or it will be racist to give it to "whiter" areas

We can set up testing centers all over town but they can't do the same for covid vaccinations?

Well, to be fair, they didn't have limited supplies and prioritization to deal with for testing like they do for vaccination.

However, you would think they would come up with a better or more organized system than "Here's the pharmacies that are vaccinating, give them a call".

phone lines at pharmacies being tied up because of interest in the vaccine

Phone lines at chain pharmacies are tied up 24/7 anyway.

I just switched to using Bolton's because of this. I'm sick of having to sit in some slow arse line for a prescription and not being able to talk to anyone via phone if all I want to do is ask a question.

Maybe like the govt creating an online portal where you enter your social, which then gives you options to schedule based on your age and status

Guess thats too much to ask

No, we have to spend money that could've been used on that to advertise for people to get the vaccine.

not only that, my mom called her pharmacy and they told her she said to go online and do all sorts of steps to get an appointment. Now she's tech savvy enough to pull it off but many people her age and older are going to run into issues navigating online portals.

We actually did have that early on with testing. Remember the lines of people and mobile testing sites closing before lunch? Remember only being able to get tested if you had so many symptoms or if you had been in direct contact with someone who had?

The real issue is the supply. Only 10.5k at this point? It's been 3 weeks now.
As of 4 days ago over 45,000 COVID vaccinations had been administered in Louisiana and Louisiana had been allocated 210,000 doses of the vaccine.

i know, but that includes hospitals. I understand all that but still only 10.5k to pharmacies in the initial release is woefully inadequate.

Right? We have the infrastructure in place. Hell, we have national guard units that can be deployed at the drop of a hat and have the necessary skills and supplies to set up vaccination sites.

Instead, we mail them to private pharmacies that are already overworked without a pandemic.

Probably because Livingston Parish doesn't have facilities to store the vaccine below freezing for several days. You have to have electricity for that to be done.
