We can set up testing centers all over town but they can't do the same for covid vaccinations?

My dad's primary care is also at Ochsner in Baton Rouge, talked to my parents again, they told my parents they have not received any vaccines.

Tell them to stop asking individual docs, as most of our locations in fact don’t house or “have” the vaccines

Go online and it will show you where you can schedule your shot. And it doesn’t surprise me our doctors aren’t reading their damn email.

Just got a text from my parents, "Can't schedule online due to high volume and system overload".

Agreed! People seem to actually think docs are all knowledgeable about this part of their practices. Even less so if they are affiliated with a big clinic! They aren't running this part of the show or filling out state applications, etc.

My mom was up at 5 this morning. She spent most of the morning trying to navigate the louisiana DHS website only to find out that they had NO information on vaccine availability. She then started cold calling all the pharmacies listed from the wafb report. They are on a waiting list at a relatively local pharmacy. They took my dad's name and said they'd call back in 3-4 weeks, so it's something. She's been calling and trying Ochsner but no luck as of yet.

Four of the participating pharmacies in the Baton Rouge area are in the "urban" area and four are in the 'burbs including two pharmacies in Zachary and one each on O'Neal Lane and Greenwell Springs.
I think you're confusing Baton Rouge with East Baton Rouge Parish. There are 4 in Baton Rouge proper. One is on Plank, one is on Florida, and one is on Gov't.

The other is below I-10, by about 100 yds

No shite. I thought the military was going to get involved in logistics to get this to everyone fast. I guess that was another tall tale.

The problem with any government agency or government-funded agency is that most of those in charge of decision-making have always worked in government. If they had simply worked somewhere where they were held accountable they’d be able to make better decisions. Instead they’ve simply coasted along their entire careers.

Yeah but there's also all kinds of other issues. Where I live, it's private hospitals that have received almost all of the first vaccines and have only used about 20% of them.

I suppose they are reluctant to incur extra expenses and more stretched than usual so are not "ramped up" for performing the needed number of vaccinations.

That's created arguments over whether to throw out the "protocols" of who goes first to some degree and get more doses to the cities and counties that have large venues set up and ready to go but are not yet in line for receiving the vaccines.

It's a bigger mess than just disorganized government since there's also private companies involved all the way down the logistical line in a haphazard manner whose motivations are just as much bottom line driven as vaccinating the greatest amount of people the fastest.
