California topped the 2019 Bloomberg gauge with a total score of 94 out of 100. It placed among the top five for all categories except STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) job concentration in part because the state has a large and diverse labor pool.

About 15 percent of the S&P 500 companies are headquartered in the Golden State, including Apple Inc., Alphabet Inc. and Facebook Inc., which can tap into the brain power of places such as Stanford University, California Institute of Technology, University of California-Berkeley and UCLA, in addition to attracting educated global job-seekers with lucrative opportunities and compensation.

quote:

The bottom four positions were unchanged from three years earlier, with Mississippi (50), West Virginia (49), Arkansas (48) and Louisiana (47). Combined, those states are headquarters for only five S&P 500 companies, including Walmart Inc., Tyson Foods Inc. and J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc., none of which are considered tech firms.

Florida should be much higher. They come up with about 30 new ways to get sent to jail every day.

Louisiana figured out how to turn a mud bug into a national delicacy. Sorry but that makes us #1

This is what I hate about these “studies” if you think WMT, JB Hunt, and Tyson aren’t innovating through technology, you’re an idiot.

But the admin at Facebook in Palo Alto counts as a tech job while the entire tech innovation team at Wal Mart in Bentonville isn’t counted.

Yep. Confirmed. Typical bias in the data. To slant the coastal R&D centers.

Does this factor in our innovation in caring for gun shot wounds?

This seems to correlate to the percentage white liberals per state.

California isn't a shithole. It's a beautiful state.

Now the people that live there....that's an entirely different subject. California would be utopia if it weren't for the frickstains that infest it.

Mass has Harvard and MIT and a slew of near-ivies.
And a bohemian culture in Boston near Harvard.

Cal has bohemian culture, top schools.

NY too. Village.

Pa too. Around Penn. And shadyside/Pitt.

For innovation you need to accept change.

The bottom feeders are anti change.

All change isn’t good. Looking a dick and saying “this is a female’s dick.” Is change...but it isn’t good change

Louisiana: “If you don’t like it, leave!”

Perfect attitude for progression.
