California isn't a shithole. It's a beautiful state.

Now the people that live there....that's an entirely different subject. California would be utopia if it weren't for the frickstains that infest it.

I always wonder whether people who say this actually go to CA. I've been there plenty on vacation and never had an issue with people.

It's the same basic experience as most places. I always wonder how people who rant about liberals conduct day to day life. I very rarely have political discussions, yet a lot of people act like you can't go to CA without getting sucked into them.

I've been there many, many times. All parts. San Diego isn't too bad. LA and the bay area? frick those people.

I also said nothing about liberal or conservative. Interesting you brought political ideology in to the discussion though, which says more about you than me.

There are multiple posts on P1 of this thread about stupid liberals in CA.

I've been to LA and the Bay a number of times and never once had a political discussion or overall interaction that was any more negative than the national norm. I just haven't had bad personal experiences in LA or the Bay Area (or SD for that matter).

Dunno, maybe you and I get different experiences for some reason.

California has one of the highest rates of illiteracy in the country, it's a Demographic time bomb.

I just mean straight up pretentious virtue signaling douchebags. San Diego folks were friendly and I've always had good experiences there. My experience with LA and the bay has been anything but. Hell I've found the people in Boston and Seattle are 10x more friendly and less likely to vomit their opinions and feelings. Never though I'd visit an area that would out-a-hole Boston and out virtue-signal Seattle at the same time.

A lot of people in the bay area and Seattle just come off as cold to me but I haven't had issues with people pushing their opinions on me. Most of them come across as agoraphobic and would probably dog cuss me on Twitter, but are too timid to say anything in real life.

Top private schools you mean.

UCLA and UC Berkeley are the #1 and #2 public universities in the country. UC Santa Barbara UC Davis and UC Irvine are all in the top 10. The only other state that has more than 1 in the top 10 is VA with UVA and William and Mary.

When it comes to top public schools CA is stacked.

States 1-9 have voted Democrat the past 4 presidential elections, #10 3 of the past 4.

States 42-50 have voted Republican the past 4 presidential elections with #41 (Maine) the lone exception voting Democrat 4/4.

I guess it's Democrats destroying the country though.

Edit: 16 states voted blue 4/4: Avg rank - 11.3
22 states voted red 4/4: Avg rank - 36

I’m still laughing that a company like Halliburton isn’t classified as an innovative company according to this study.

They were awarded 800 patents in 2018. Top 50 company in this regard.

yeah I'm sure if you cut all the programs designed to help your citizenry, your state will have a better fiscal ranking. Your state will also be poor, unhealthy, and uneducated. And you still have states like LA, WV, MS, et al that offer absolutely nothing to its citizens and still can't have a decent fiscal score.

You also won't attract businesses as no one wants to move to most of these states outside of Texas and that's more because of state tax laws and 4 huge cities. As a result TX will also be a blue state in the next decade.
