You would be correct. The only thing that saves these two dog’s life daily is the fact my wife and daughter love them both.

Yikes. A lot of words to say you got tired of taking care of him and had no attachment and ignored him. You aren’t dog owner material.

Your concerns are valid, I see your children are 2 & 3, surely you can divert their attention for a few years. When you do decide to get a dog, get two, low energy dogs , not puppies, and fence in a yard for them with access to the house. I think everyone will be happy with that set up.

I work and my dogs are fine. They get plenty of attention when I’m home and on weekends. I don’t have children at home to compete for my time, as mine are grown. Most animals live in the moment and don’t fret. What is happening now is their “real.” They sleep all day.

If a canine version of the odd couple is made, these dogs will be selected. And the pug is obviously Oscar.

The poor thing will be home alone all day M-F from 7-5. I don't think that's fair to the dog and I can't do it.

Then you shouldn’t. We have had one for just over a year and it has been pretty hard. I start getting anxious around 4 hours, particularly if he was only out for an hour in the morning.

Hoping after 4+ years they can be trusted to roam the house or even just be fine if you come let them out for an hour. But puppies are dumb and you are asking for problems.

I didn’t read this. What are you even considering this?

Not all dogs are like that.

Also you could get one over the summer if the kids will be home more if you are worried about the initial acclimation.

I never had a dog from childhood to now that had to be rehomed because it was left alone longer on some days than others.

Okay I missed that your kids are 3 and 2. Tell them tough shite and get one when they are older.

Case closed.

A dog from the shelter would LOVE being home alone from 7 to 5 if they don't have to live in the shelter. Go rescue a dog

Can’t help. My catahoula is my ride or die. She’d kill you for fricking with my truck or my kids. She’d also destroy my house if she didn’t ride shotgun with me every day.

3 and 2 seems a bit young for kids to have a dog. I would think you'd want them a bit older so they could help somewhat care for it.

We’ve had good luck adopting senior labs. There are a lot of them that need homes and they’re great with kids as well as being perfectly content to sleep all day.

A lot of people want to go out and get puppies, but the senior dogs are the best IMO.

Ours puts up with my 4yr old practically strangling him and he couldn’t be happier. He was on death row when we got him and I would swear that he knows it.

I got a Corgi, and he’s fine and sleeps for eight hours if we’re gone. Sweet pup that’s happy to see us back but can be fine being alone.

Sometimes dogs can enjoy a life just because they have a job to do... For example... My cat enjoys a good life only because I hired him to mouse. And he doesn't complain one bit.

There's some truth to this. Dogs are social animals and they will do much better with a companion. Especially if you will be away from home for long periods often

I wouldn’t do it given your current circumstances.
