I’d wait at least two years. Puppies nip and a kid needs to be able to defend himself.

Do they even remember asking you for a dog?
For real though, don’t get a puppy with those ages.

Kids 2 and 3 will not take care of a dog in any way, shape or form. Just about all kids love puppies and kittens but once they grow into dogs and cats the novelty seems to wear off for many of them.
Then it's up to you to feed, bathe, pick up the dog crap that they drop 3 times a day, get up and let them out if an inside dog, keep the house clean while dealing with fleas in the summer months-------and don't kid yourself, there will be fleas.
And all dogs seem to go through their version of the "Terrible Twos" just like kids and love to tear crap up, especially when they are left alone. This will usually go on until they get to about 20 months old and out of that puppy stage.
If this isn't a "need" by the Mrs. let the kids wait until they are older and then think about it.

Your dog will adapt to you. Mine stays up late with me and sleeps during the day when I'm gone.

Try getting a Bassett hound. It will sleep most of the day.

Your kids are 3 and 2. They don't know what they want from one second to the next. Wait til they're 9 and 10.

Some of y'all must not be married...when I say the kids that are 3 and 2 want a dog, it really means...
Mom wants a dog.
Mom wants a dog.

I haven’t read through the replies, but just want to say it’s good that you are raising that question before just going out and blindly buying the dog. So many people do that and then realize after the fact that they have no time for the dog.

7 to 5 is doable as long as it gets a walk before and after.

The dog will be elated that you chose it.

The poor thing will be home alone all day M-F from 7-5. I don't think that's fair to the dog and I can't do it.
Get two, a sibling if possible and a doggie door so they can go in and out during the day.

Dogs sleep on average 18 hours a day. They will be okay left alone during the day.

In this case, I would get a cat. Way more independent and don't have to go outside. It will tide them over until they can help with the dog chores. Dogs that are alone can be destructive.

Your the dummie.that spent 2500 to figure out you neglected the dog. Obviously you didn't spend time with the thing when you were home.

My husband works from home but before that I was gone for 12 hours and he was gone for 10. He let them out before he left at 7, I let them in when I got in at 4. No one was depressed and no one destroyed the house.
They just chilled and slept when we were away and were happy to see us.
