Not if you are a legit instrument guy or in process control.

forgot to mention industrial controls is another option, it's just a bunch of PLC programming and connecting though, which can become very tedious

Plenty of EE graduates write code all day. Even when I worked for an investor-owned electric utility, there were EEs writing code there.

That said, not everyone enjoys it, and not everyone has an aptitude for it.

Won't help you in Louisiana. Some of the worst salaries for software engineers in the country.

The LSU EE curriculum does in fact teach JavaScript and C++. It would be better if they switched to Python for automation purposes, but yeah LA isn’t really a coding state and lacks qualified STEM majors in this arena.

No lie. Senior Instrument guys do very well at the Engineering company I work for.

Get some experience and get your stamp.

FWIW my company has offices throughout the Southeast mainly in the industrial sector. Houston and BR have the highest Engineering rates per hour across the board.

You may approach or eclipse these rates a little in some Northern states but the cost of living is much higher.

You can make a decent living here but it's not up to snuff with the good stem job markets for sure. Not even close. It helps to know a lot of people. It's absolutely better than it was 20 years ago when I graduated though.

Yeah my son just got his MS in EE from Tech, and had to go to Dallas to get work, but he's raking in the coin

That was my point. I’m a mechanical engineer and I write XML and MATLAB code all the time.

We always try to find some and are usually met with scrubs.

Starting 90-105k depending on the candidate. Not sure where that ranks for a 0-3yr EE though.

Yup. I'm an instrument engineer (EE degree) and I love it. Seems to be a decent amount of work going around. I wouldn't think it would be too too difficult to find a job.

i remember my chemistry teacher from college telling the class that engineers are basically problem solvers. doesn't really matter which one your focus was in college. you should be able to get an engineering job anywhere.

What about Salas O’Brien in Baton Rouge?

You could be doing pretty good for yourself in Houston with EE degree and 10 years experience.

The plants are always looking for a good electrical engineer. Once you are in the plant, the sky is the limit. move to people managers, or tech centers and all the way up to corporate. The problem with where I am at is that the engineers can't take the stress and leave. But the advancement opportunities are great. Also, electrical is probably one of the higher paid and in need.
