I watched it a couple of times.
I side with the cop here. The clearly charged him, the cop told the guy to get his dog, he didn't, the dog continued to charge him, and the cop put a bullet in it's head and dropped it with quickness (great shot as he was retreating).
The owner, in his drunkenness, got himself arrested b/c he threatened to kick the cop's arse.
Pretty open and shut to me.

Yea he's not the owner. The owner is some energy tycoon lady in Houston. She's the first person he called right after the dog got shot. "MARGO, MARGO a frickin policeman just shot Ammo in the head!"

Its not cowardice, its a matter of efficiency. A police officer should not be "handling" a dog at all. If a dog is obstructing his job, kill the dog and continue the job.

It doesnt take an extended period of time to determine if the dog is gonna frick you up. A grown man could bitch slap that dog down. Its not a rott, its not a pit, its not a great dane. I know you really dont get this, so let me explain it again, no, he shouldn't have to take a risk at a bite, especially not at his pay. I know that you dont get that I agree w that, so im repeating it until your prefrontal catches up. My position is that hes a pussy for pulling leather on a 60 lb dog when a bite was unlikely and even manageable.

Years ago when I was a kid I was riding my bicycle down a street ,a police car stopped in front of a house and a cop gets out.As he approached the house about a 50 lb. dog runs at the cop barking.The cop pulls his pistol and shot in the ground once in front of the dog.Dog backs off,still barking but didn’t approach the cop anymore.
Unless it’s a dangerous breed such as a pit bull or Rottweiler that’s the way it should be handled, IMO.

Good point. In this case the subject called the police to his home, probably to make a report on what happened at the bar witnesses said he was kicked out of. The cop didn't anticipate this guy to be dumb enough to let his dog run after him barking as soon as he walked up to the driveway . If this started as a vicious animal call he probably could have handled it better. He didn't have time to judge " what breed of dog is this, how old is it, how much does it weigh, is it going to bite me or just try to scare me, if a dog comes at me should i tase it, or mace it or just kill it" . It's common sense to shoot the dog in that scenario
