Many discussions about how and why it happened, but I wonder if it was possible to have avoided it?

Nobody else ever fought a war over slavery though many countries got rid of it throughout the 1800's. America's population in 1860 was about 31 million and by 1865 about 640,000 died in the fighting.

Almost like there were other factors.

What other laws were enacted after the Civil War to address those other unsettled factors?

As far as I see, it was mostly freed man and discrimination laws

You think it was that simple? There were slaves in the south US and north US was like "you better get rid of those slaves or else" and the south was like "or else what" and the north was like "or else you better be ready to go to war".. The south called their bluff and then the war started

Define “never”. The Romans, Greeks, Persians, and Mongols enslaved large numbers of people including nearly 70% of the population of Rome weren’t Roman citizens as were several Greek city/states. They would routinely attack weaker regions for sources of labor and resources.

Tariffs on Southern imports were jacked up further as soon as the South walked out of Congress and after the war.

That's the opposite of all of the context. Many cultures fought wars to enslave others, but no others fought a war to end slavery. Haiti might be an exception to that.

Better question is what might have been if Lincoln had NOT been murdered. He believed in reconciliation and not radical reconstruction.

We didn’t fight a war to end slavery, they fought a war to preserve the Union and keep from losing what the South brought to it. It was the end of the state being the primary organization of citizens and the supremacy of the federal government. The 10th amendment was rendered null and void.

Was there not some issue concerning the economic power of the agricultural South versus the economic power of the emerging industrial North and the voting balance in Congress as new states were admitted to the Union - would each new state be Slave or Free?

Some northern politician said, "All we want is their peace and harmony." Southern politicians thought he said, "All we want is their peas and hominy." Dixie wasn't about to give up it's peas and hominy, so the fight was on.

And how’d that work out for Haiti?
