What other laws were enacted after the Civil War to address those other unsettled factors? As far as I see, it was mostly freed man and discrimination laws

The entire federal-state relationship changed.

Go dumb down some other board.

Then secession was a fool's errand...which it was always the case.

What specific actions were states attempting to do, that the federal government was preventing them from doing so?

By letting the states that wanted to leave do exactly that. Each state could have held a vote to stay in the Union or join the CSA.

If we had gone through with that and truly separated into two sovereign nations, we would have been conquered so fast. Other nations licking their chops at the thought of a split US. Imagine how the following century of history would have gone if we were not one united country?

I'm a "follow the dollar" type of historian. For every decision somebody profits and somebody loses. I've never found a good study about the Civil War that explains which people and industries on both sides financed pro-war politicians and pressed for war hopping for profits. The only partial answer I've run into is that advocates of a northern transcontinental railroad were happy to see proposed southern lines eliminated.

Too bad we dont have a time machine. We could put that magnificent orange bastard in it and he would have had a peace deal in 24 hours.

Again, if the tables were turned and as you traveled north the climate warmed, you would have seen slaves working fields in the north.

Without the south there is no United States. The southern colonies were the producers that allowed the country to be formed. Less than 100 years later they were then told to cease operating in the manner that had allowed the country to be formed.

Yea, I'd probably of been pissed also.

If John 3:16 worked (Jesus taught respect and love for fellow man).

Plan B, if Bible was clear about its views on slavery, perhaps if it was Commandment?

So, by extension, black people are correct when they say, "without black people, there is no United States."

You are more than welcome to your opinion. Again, it’s all geographical, that’s the only point I was trying to make. It had zero to do with one side having the moral high ground.

But just to counter your comment…we have zero idea how the south would have farmed large acreage without slaves. I can only assume someone would have required a living wage in exchange for their work.

Better question is what might have been if Lincoln had NOT been murdered.

In the end, very little.

The ~80 years of white supremacy imposed under Jim Crowe wasn’t done out of spite for North Aggression. It was done because of an entrenched believe in the natural superiority of the white race over the negroid and mongoloid races.

Whites of the confederate and confederate sympathizing states weren’t going to co-exist peacefully with blacks if Lincoln had lived.
