Finally have to bite the bullet and get a new phone, nothing wrong with my MILSPEC phone other than they obsoleted it be design. Of course I'm due for an upgrade, they give me the oh yeah you can get a new phone for 3 years of payments. I say I just wanna buy the phone what’s the upgrade discount. - oh you can’t do that "the upgrade is we let you finance a phone for 36 months”
If I were dictator I would smash this industry into a million pieces.

Getting a new phone has become a royal pain in the arse like buying a car.

So what’s your gripe? That you don’t get a cash discount?

They do that for retention purposes to keep people from switching for those 3 years
Buy an unlocked phone from Amazon or a refurb from Woot.
I always just buy my own phone so I am not locked into their bullshite 3 years and have any prepayment penalty or something
Also, unlocked phones not made by Samsung come with way less bloatware

You can buy a super shitty phone on Amazon and have your carrier activate it.
You don't need a new $2000 phone.

Just log into your account and pay off the device early.

I have never had a problem just buying a phone in one payment

Just buy a new unlocked phone of your choice from Samsung, Google or Apple. My last 2 phones i bought direct from Samsung. It's pretty simple to tranfers contacts, apps, etc., from the old phone to the new one.

Why would they give you a discount on a phone without any way to tie you to their service?

I still use my I Phone 10 XLR...

$1000 for a phone you use a ton all day and lasts at least 5 years doesnt seem bad to me
I have a cheap $50 a month ATT plan and it gives a $800 trade in voucher.

Why? Just order, or go to a store, and get what you want. Pay the full price now and pick a carrier. How hard is that?

Cause I’ve been a loyal AT&T customer
For 20 years with no reason to change, 4 lines. That’s why

I tried the same thing. They really don't want to sell you the phone for cash. The cash price is jacked up so high that it is more expensive than "financing" it. It is bass akwards and just serves to prop up the financing arm of the cell companies.
And that is with them knowing you intend to keep their service.

That phone in a case is damn near indestructible. I had it before I got this one and only gave it up because the battery wouldn't hold a charge and apps no longer work on it.

I'm currently using a $40 Motorola android. It's the best phone I've ever had. Does everything I need it to do. Why some of you are spending four figures on something you're gonna use to browse TD 90% of the time baffles me.
