A good reason is that cars/trucks just last a lot longer.
True.
Also, the prices on used cars are ridiculous.
For example, the cost of a used 2021 Honda Civic is damned close to what that same car sold for brand new 6 years ago.

My Toyota is 13 years old and no issues. I think about a new one and see the crazy cost and electronics that will be troublesome and change my mind. Interested in a Honda Passport so if I ever go through with it I’ll be looking 3 to 4 years used. Not paying $50K for a non-luxury vehicle.

Definitely not buying a vehicle anytime soon. Hate diesel prices but the truck is paid off

But the OT says everyone is buying new $60k cars and financing them for 7 years.

Car 1 - 12 years and 242k miles (mine)
Car 2 - 1 year and 10k miles (car note)
I get a little anxiety every time something breaks on my car and thinking it’s the end.

America’s $1.7 trillion auto loan market is headed for a crash, per Reuters.
This isn't a criticism of you, but I've been hearing about crashes in the stock market, housing market, auto industry, luxury home industry, etc for years now. Yet it never happens. and I'm fine with that. The economy definitely has an inflation problem, but seems like these kinds of headlines are more clickbait than anything else.

avoiding new cars due to nanny tech. I want to change the fricking clock... "THIS FEATURE IS DISABLE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION".
Ok, let me bump up the bass a little. THIS FEATURE IS DISABLED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.

Guess I contribute to this. 2 @ 2004, 1 @ 2017, 1 @ 2016? All paid off. An electric car or a Hyundai Elantra N are the only thing that intrigues me. But no note is the best.

Part of it probably has to do with the cost of car insurance these days. Once the car is paid for, you're no longer required to pay for collision, collateral and whatever the other C is. You get can car insurance for less than 100 bucks a month.

Relatively new 2024 Silverado. But, my first purchase was a 1993 Jeep Cherokee w 213K miles that I traded in for a 2007 Toyota FJ, that I traded in at 246K miles for a 2020 Silverado. That one was a lemon.

Would be a lot more if Obama hadn't done Cash for clunkers. Totally destroyed used car pricing in the wrong direction.

It's the "Lane Kiffin Insiders Morning Emails" that Chicken signs us all up for that really makes the difference.
Can't put a price on that.

My truck is a 2011. Gonna drive it till it can't be fixed any more.

Did you mean to say "were better built"?
Because a lot of the new ones are pieces of shite. GM, Ford and Toyota all have newer (1-5 year old) that have major engine and transmission failures.
Im keeping my 2008 gmc until it dies, and even then I may just fix it. Plus I dont need all the crap on the new models.

Same with my car. It’s paid off, it’s running. Gets decent gas mileage.
