My truck is 2023 paid off
My wifes SUV 2020 paid off

Wife’s looking at new cars only because she needs a bigger one for our kids needs a 3rd row. We don’t want a new vehicle because it’s an SUV that holds up like a tank but it’s a little too small.

This seems like total fear porn. 80% of people paying their bills. Cars are one of the easiest things to repo and companies to get money back on.

Also that 13 year average age seems like total BS or is contradictory to the claim they are making. That number alone would indicate the vast majority of people have no car loans.

I’d have to see real data on this. I don’t think that the average age of a car on the road in the U.S. could possibly be 13 years.

Interesting note, I bought a truck for around 38k a few months ago. Went to the same dealer and they had a Ford150 Raptor for 117K with an average 12mpg. Freaking nuts.

2017 with 120Kish miles. I'll drive it till the wheels fall off
I've got a 1998 Tacoma with 379K on it. Engine purrs like a kitten and the transmission shifts smooth. Heater core is fricked, but the A/C blows cold. I just drove it on an 800 mile trip. Insurance is $37/month and I get 18mpg. Parts are inexpensive and it's easy to work on and easy to park.

Vehicles are better-built, far more reliable, and safer than at any other time in history.

Toyota, Ford, and GM have had massive issues with engine failures. No new car made, will see 500K miles with the best maintenance. If the motor doesn't shite the bed, you can damn sure bet the tranny is going to leave parts all over the road.

I can’t even remember what coveting a new car feels like. I drive an 11 year old civic with 100k miles and wouldn’t replace it if my net worth did a 20x tomorrow.

Truth be known, modern cars and trucks that are constantly spying on you, as well as being based on shoddy engineering in order to meet mandated CAFE standards, suck.

They are big brother epitomized, and prone to rapid unplanned disassembly.

They are just not as attractive to consumers as proven workhorse vehicles from a decade ago.

I know plenty of people seeking out solid trucks and cars from the 2010’s, simply because of that.

ive driven 1999, 2000, and 2008 vehicles to/from MT/SC to in the past 3 years. zero issues. All very low maintenance vehicles with very very low insurance cost and permanently registered. have no plan to sell any of them.

New vehicle purchases peaked in 2015. A huge drop occurred during the COVID years. Some of that was due to factory closures. But then new vehicle purchases began rising again every year since 2022. The number of vehicles sold is almost back to 2015 levels.

So put me down for vehicles are just being made to last longer now.

I tried telling everyone around me this. It’s like the NINJA loans that crashed in 2008. They are giving anyone a 8 year loan to get a 90k vehicle.
