These two factors led to cultures within the continent never really traveling and trading with their neighbors. And that’s how cultures grow wealth and knowledge. Basically retarded their growth throughout the era where Europe and Asia were building empires.

When you cite one to just nation on a large continent you’re proving the OP’s point

I suspect that 99.99% of people would not be able to tell you that that photograph is in Botswana

I’ve heard this theory about how maintenance isn’t really a concept in Africa. No idea if it’s true but it seems reasonable.

Apparently it doesn’t have any real navigable rivers. Sure, it has lots of rivers, but the massive drops in elevation throughout the continent cause them all to have waterfalls and make them unusable for long distances by boat. Additionally, its coast is rocky and has very few places to bring in ships. (North coast and South Africa)

Roads? Railways? Move to where trade is possible?

Africa is pretty big. Not many good places to land boats?

Botswana is livable because it's built on one the largest diamond and rare earth deposits in the world and its leadership is only a little corrupt, not 100% corrupt.

Probably because they sold all their engineers, architects and doctors into European slavery. Just really bad luck, that.

Africa always has been and always will be a shite hole.

Yes, there have been periods of growth and modernization.

Yes, there are pockets of success now.

The success never lasts and will never last because Africa's inhabitants have a history of governance and it's not a good history.

It's an inconvenient truth, but it's still the truth.

Liberals think that third world people magically become first world just by coming to the west. Bc it’s the land or air or something out of their control which made their homelands shitholes.

What’s funny is the specific example you cite, Botswana, is for all intents and purposes a welfare client of Communist China.

Citing Botswana as a success story is akin to claiming a single mom in Memphis with 7 kids by 5 different baby-daddies and living in government projects and receiving government benefits is “successful.”

Well, you have to understand that, to an American Democrat/Progressive voter, leaching off the government is "success".

Botswana is better than most. Butttt 99% of the country is shite. Gaborone is nicer but it doesn’t look like that picture at all.

Large portions of Africa are essentially colonies of China now. Tons of Chinese predatory deals have helped advance parts of Africa, but at huge long term costs. Is it worth it? Probably if you’re currently in Africa, as the quality of life was completely in the shithole. But it will affect the long term growth. China is playing the long game of generations. 100 year plan.
