They shouldn’t, but they should pay the portion of the fuel tax that is dedicated to roadway maintenance.

Since when is the OT in favor of more taxing?
OT has gone soft.
Even for you anti-EV gas gussets, don't act like they'll figure out a way to start taxing extra to you, too, in addition to the taxes you already suffer

We did this in GA a few years back and the guy that set the number based it on his own personal perception of what it should be.

For those who oppose the fee because it's another tax, how do you propose to pay for fixing/maintaining roads? Assuming that is how it will actually be used?

Yep, and leave it to the OT to love the lazy solution, and big government- as long as it penalizes EV drivers .

Louisiana needs to do this.

But double whatever fee Texas is charging

Louisiana already does have fees for electric and hybrid vehicles, I'm not sure why you want the fee to be double unless you just want to punish EV drivers. Seems like you want the gov "to pick winners and losers"

Lol at all of you pseudo-conservatives cheering a new tax because EVs hurt your feelings.
Pathetic.

This is a prime example of why we are fricking doomed. The gov’t is using more gov’t to fix a problem caused by the gov’t. There is no hope.

Apologies then, please continue to let those nasty conservatives maintain the roads you use for free then.

Why? What is the purpose of gas tax? Road maintenance? They certainly aren’t using road taxes for road care. At least, here in Louisiana. Jefferson Parish is trying to compete with NOLA these days for horrible streets. I don’t have an e-car and don’t want one. Was just curious. I don’t think one should be penalized not driving a vehicle needing gas.

$120 for EVs in SC. Also a $250 fee for people moving in from another state (“Yankee tax”), but hell, I used to pay about $100 a year in Chicago for a city sticker…which is for the privilege of having your car get beat to shite in the city.

Weren't most EVs purchased with tax credits?
It's unfair, taxpayers pay for libs to virtue signal.

Imagine thinking a tax credit for one is a tax burden for someone else.
