I love this world we live in where we define everything based on one thing.

They pay tolls, tax property, tax oil and gas, car registration and more.

They have cool shiat and good schools because they pay for it.

Same for Florida, but they have a lot of tourist money and tax the heck out of hotels and other tourist venues. And also tolls.

Texas sports teams are not good and the drivers are awful.

mainly due to the fact that people living in “exurbs” and “within 2 miles of a walmart” as a previous poster has chided, you can also send your kid to a public school where literacy isn’t an anomaly

You do understand the liquor industry is one of the most vociferous opponents of permitting hard alcohol sales on Sundays, right? They're going to sell the same amount of liquor, but being closed saves them overhead costs, so they don't *want* to be open on Sundays.

Very few folks move to Texas to reside in the City of Dallas proper.

Housing prices in Dallas proper are 2x what they were 8 years ago. Most of the people I know in Dallas proper are not native Texans.

My property taxes are very high in Southlake. However, my kids are in a superior public school system, clean parks, etc. It is money well spent.

As soon as my kids are out of HS, we are moving to a place with lower property taxes.

My tax is $4,150 in New Orleans for a tiny spot 43'wide,(with state taxes on top of that). My 3 acres in Texas is a whopping $1,200 and no chance of flooding. Can't wait to go there permanently.

Maybe. My youngest is in Kindergarten so that is at least 12 years away. For sure, we’ll downgrade the house and move somewhere further out (Argyle maybe)

They’re very high everywhere moderately desirable or better in DFW. They subsidize the lack of state income tax and the only way around it is to leave the area or massively downgrade. It is hard to find a decent place under $500k in the metroplex, and $500k is going to yield taxes over $10k after the homestead. Most really good places are filled with homes pushing or over seven figures.

You don't own land. You just rent it from the govt. Property tax is the worst kind of tax there is. No matter if you earn or spend... you still have to pay out the arse. Hit a bad time and you're stuff gets sold on the courthouse steps.

Again.... you're just renting it from the govt. Buy a nice house and you'll have to keep working just to keep up with the property taxes if you're 'lucky' enough to live in an area that grows.
