In income tax states you can’t lower your burden by taking less income.

Huh

Sorry, I mean you wouldn’t* lower your tax burden by decreasing your income.

Income taxes penalize you for success while you gain nothing.

No state income tax makes up for the high property tax bills. At least Texans can reduce their tax burden by buying a cheaper house. If I want to lower my tax burden, I just have to make less money

Having no state income tax does not offset the high property taxes in TX

Texas is a bunch of fake freedom lovers
When I moved here 5 years ago, I couldn't believe how safe I was with TExas protecting me from buying whiskey after 9pm or on a Sunday. So much freedom.

Got my appraisal today.

Wasn't good.

Thankfully, I live in a county that applies an additional 20% tax break on top of the State's homestead exemption so it isn't terrible.

However, having lived most of my life in Mississippi and Alabama, paying property taxes this high is one of the reasons I'm getting the frick out after I retire in 3 years.

The reason the tax bill has shot up is due to home values. Demand is very high in parts of Dallas (private school areas, Lakewood, Preston Hollow and the like).

I don’t like taxes and think property taxes are out of control but all Texan homes are worth exponentially more today than they were 4 years ago due to governance.

I’m not saying the rate is equal to the increase we’ve seen we’re paying the price for not living in totalitarian shitholes.

Your home is worth more because your Governor isn’t an a-hole.

It does if you make enough money. By a lot.

Wow my ontario property taxes are less compared to tejas, nvr would have thought that. That pays for a public/catholic school system you can send your kids to. I do remember my LA property texes being less than $200 in the 90s....
