Question for you guys, should I shell out the 10k for full drive or extended range? Can’t afford to get both without going over budget
FDS isn't worth it right now IMO, plus you can't transfer it over to your next purchase, so it just doesn't feel worth it.

Extended range is really a personal preference. If you do a good bit of long distance driving then yes. If not, probably not.

She also got a tax credit as well, I think back then it was $7,500. Maybe $2,500 now.

No more tax credits at the Federal level. They hit the limit for sales.

Depending on state there may be some still available.

Like I'd buy a car that doesn't even have a dealership in this state, much less a service department.

Friend got one. Went out of town and left it in his garage on the charge plug. Came back and it had broken down. Literally broke down while sitting in the garage and had to have it taken to Dallas to repair. Thing has been a basket case of electrical glitches since. Great car for cultist fart sniffers.
Ah yes, good thing those gas powered vehicles never ever ever have issues.

The resale value is pretty insane.

I know a guy who got a Tesla the same month I did. About 10 months later, he sold it for $5k more than he paid for it. I've had mine for 1.5 years and just doing quick looks on Cars.com or wherever, I can likely get pretty darn close to exactly what I paid for it, "sticker" price if you will.

Yeah it was awesome performance to money wise. One thing I’ll have to get used to is the regenerative braking

Great for a daily driver. shite otherwise. I planned a 450 mile drive in one and the normal 6 and half hour trip would take me 8 with charging.

Exactly

And you don't get to easily start every single day with a "full tank" on a gas vehicle like you do with a Tesla/EV.

I always assumed they depreciated like German sedans. I could not believe what they were selling for on auction sites. As of now, there is a about a 10 week wait for a Model S which certainly props up resale. I definitely overlooked the “capable” part of the Autopilot option. That extra $10k really changes the value equation for me.

Someone in another car thread mentioned how nice Volvo interiors are. I checked out their offerings. They have a XC40 which is their smallest SUV in full electric. Everything I want is $58k. Currently federal tax incentives are $7500 and state tax incentive of $4k. Those incentives get me to the same note as the vehicle it would replace. The 200 mile range would be very tight for a trip to the ski resorts without a recharge. Their PHEV cars (which is nearly the entire lineup have the same state tax is the same and slightly less on the federal) would alleviate that concern.

I don’t own one but I do like them. Screw the whole green house climate change BS they are cat quick and self driving. On a long trip that would be great.

You are correct.

Around town and for about 200 miles away - it’s the best car ever.

But I took my Model S on a long road trip and it was not fun. It took much longer to charge (even with the Tesla network) and the range was poor when driving 75 mph. My round trip should have taken me 13 hours and instead it was over 18 hours.

When I am on a trip, I am in a hurry to arrive and Tesla can’t help me with that craving.

My neighbor has a Tesla X and just drove it 900 miles EACH WAY. He thought it was great getting to stop and take a 45 minute break every few hours.

Best part of having a Tesla is proving you care so much about the environment, that you paid $100K just to virtue signal about it to everyone else!!!

That's why like US large SUVs and used to like older large American sedans for road trips. Huge tanks and V-8s do decent on the Highway.
Most trips east or west we just make one stop at a Buccees as our only planned stop.(gas, food, bathroom)
