I really enjoy rallying with him and seeing him improve. He made the tennis team at school. Going to matches is so much better than going to ballgames. All the parents are relaxed and having a good time watching the matches.

I only fell in love with tennis later in life, good for your son that he discovered it early .

Insofar as attending the matches, i havent yet but i actually enjoy watching the Slams on tv.. the European player names take some getting used to, but there are all the on-court and off-court storylines like with the other sports we follow in America .

Can anyone explain why now, at least in America- tennis is looked at as some fru-fru country club sport, whereas golf- the ultimate country club sport- is not ?

Personally im of the opinion that we need an American men’s tennis version of Tiger Woods

Football, basketball, and baseball have always dominated the U.S. sports landscape, but I think there’s even more incentive today for talented young athletes to step into those arenas. With NIL, there’s no doubt about it.

No one gives a frick about high school tennis. No one gives a frick about college tennis. No one gives a frick about a second round Wimbledon match on Court 12.

Unless you’re among the very best in the world, no one will ever care what you do on a tennis court, a golf course, or a swimming pool.

But there are college football players now who are making big money and aren’t even close to the best in the world. There are bottom tier NBA and MLB guys making tons of money as well.

There’s little incentive for a top athlete today who could succeed in a lot of sports to invest his talents in tennis.

Pickleball is easier for people to learn and requires less background

I play pickleball and recently started golfing (badly). I can easily do these things without fear of injury (I’m 44). It is also a lot easier to get a group doing those things. I know of 1 person who does tennis and they’d smoke me in a game.

Access to tennis is gated by country club memberships where I live at least. I can do the other two without a cc membership.

because golf is fun.

why does it seem like pickleball, of all things, is more “acceptable” these days than tennis-
acceptable? WTF are you talking about... who is going around badmouthing tennis, saying its unacceptable, while boasting about golf and pickleball?

Tennis is a marathon. Pickleball is a sprint.

Because golf has grown exponentially over the past 5 years. YouTube golf is literally a career now. Tennis is not. Pickleball is a fun joke

No, it's what whiffle ball is to baseball.

Agreed on what plagues tennis. The Williams sisters notwithstanding, not having a dominant male hurts the sport.

Andy Roddick was the last to win a major. His only major. Over 20 years ago.

There are so many shots and nuances to tennis that don't exist with PB. And it's so annoying to hear. Four full grown adults in that tiny space looks retarded. Table tennis is more fun and requires more skill.

I hadn't picked up a tennis racket in 20 years, but a buddy plays and invited me to go out for a few sets. I was suprised that I retained some skills after so many years and I was able to consistently serve and hit (mostly) inside the lines.

One of my favorite mockumentaries Andy Samberg and Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

Tennis is physically the hardest and best exercise. Will get you in great shape, but it is very hard to learn.

Pickleball is the best socially and you can be decent at it pretty quick. Decent exercise.

Golf is the most fun but the most frustrating. Also very hard to learn.
