I am glad they caught him but why were they going through his phone/videos? The most I've done with someone's left phone at work is answer a call and telling them it where it was found. Also, he didn't have it locked?

I thought the same thing and wondered if this may somehow leave the window for this POS to get off on a technicality over illegal search or something?
Would be terrible, but I'd bet a good attorney could put forward an argument that might sway some jury members. Here's hoping he gets a public defender who doesn't give a shite about him.

Someone who is not a cop seeing the photos/videos on an unlocked would probably not be an illegal search. It would certainly form the PC necessary for a warrant to search the phone.

I've just lost so much faith in the justice system over the past decade or so that I get very pessimistic about their ability to do their job.
