American has already cancelled a ton of flights
quote:
Meanwhile, Fort Worth-based American Airlines said it has also canceled the "vast majority of impacted flights" in the northeast and central parts of the U.S. so it could "proactively notify and accommodate our customers and avoid last-minute disruptions at the airport."

At this point I would be shocked and amazed if your flight aint cancelled.

Weather here in Chicago absolutely blows. The snow plows can't keep up. The roads are pretty bad and getting worse, so I'm probably going to go get my daughter from daycare early if the opportunity presents itself.

DFW could still get planes off the ground for another ~4 hours or so if they really had to.

Just checked into our air bnb in Louisville. Everyone around here seems to be acting like. I big deal. It does look like the rain is breaking up.

The rain today was always predicted to be just rain. The freezing rain will start up in the morning tomorrow and go pretty much most of the day until it maybe changes over to snow.
The reason folks here are acting like it’s a big deal is because if we get the 1/2”+ ice we could get people will lose power and travel will be hazardous.

Do you predict any ice accumulation for the Houston area tomorrow evening
Posted on 2/2/22 at 11:59 am to Duke
It shouldnt be that big of a deal. Temps last year were low for weeks leading up to the big drop in Temp.
It was 70 Monday and heats up right after Thursday going into the weekend.

Currently about 8 inches of snow on the ground in Wichita, Kansas. Pretty sure this is the most snow I’ve seen in my life

Winter Weather Advisory has been expanded southward to include all counties along and northwest of the US 59 corridor including the metro Houston area
High resolution models continue to trend slower with the ending of the precipitation across SE TX late Thursday night into Friday morning. At the same time the surface freezing line will progress southward on Thursday afternoon and evening toward the US 59 corridor and then toward the coast early Friday morning. There will likely be a period of a few hours on Thursday evening into Friday morning where light precipitation will be falling into a freezing/sub freezing air mass at the surface and some light ice accumulation on elevated surfaces will be possible (trees, power lines, bridges/overpasses, vehicles). Surface roadways and streets will remain too warm for any ice accumulation, but bridges/overpasses, connector ramps, flyovers, may develop some patchy ice.
Note: while freezing rain and ice will be possible during the day Thursday NW of metro Houston (Columbus, Brenham, Huntsville), the threat for freezing rain and any ice accumulation across Fort Bend, Harris, southern Waller, southern Montgomery Counties will be after 4-5pm on Thursday and most likely in the mid to late evening hours as the surface temperatures cool to and below freezing.
Temperatures will likely remain below freezing on Friday morning until 900-1000am for areas along and south of the US 59 corridor so any ice that does accumulate will be slow to melt until mid to late morning.
Preparations:
Use the remaining warm weather this afternoon to complete any needed preparation actions
This will not be a repeat of the February 2021 winter storm, but protective measures should be taken to help mitigate any potential freeze damage.

Seems like the cold front is moving a bit faster than what the NWS predicted.

I put in an order for some last minute things and the grocer had no bread, no bagels, and no English muffins.
Has everything else though.

I fed the cattle and now it's time for many bowls of medicine whilst watching what this storm is or isn't going to do.
