GFS drops the Memphis area below freezing about three hours before the Euro.

NAM is in line with the Euro. HRRR is several hours later than all the others. Gonna be interesting to follow that freezing line.

That's basically the difference in ice totals right now.

Also if you were to type in... lets say gumbowx.com into your browser you might find something interesting.

Gumbox.com forecast for Groundhog Day ice event

Cool, Duke! Very well organized and straightforward site layout. Graphics very approachable and the forecasts relate to every day life.

"If you’re in these regions, get your prep done tonight, hope the lights stay on, and keep the car in the driveway."

"No hype weather with the context you need"
Mission accomplished.

Still, that's pretty surprising. Haven't seen them on the weather waivers from the airlines.

I'm going to dive in after the game is over, but right off I love the embedded soundings. I don't know that I've seen it done like that anywhere else. Good looking site, too.

Looking at Austin (and split the difference if you’re in Waco), almost all the members of the GEFS (29/30) show snow for Austin with the 18z run on 1/31. Sure, likely to see some snow but the ensemble mean has 0.9” of liquid falling for this event. Reasonably (I didn’t run the stats to confirm) it looks like a range of .75” - 1.25” of liquid in this event. The ensembles show a mean of 2” of snow, with only one member significantly higher with 9”. Austin left with slim chances of getting the early turnover to snow that are long odds in Dallas. This also means more freezing rain instead. Wait! Why are people from Austin throwing things at me!? Just kidding, no one is reading this. My thinking tonight is Austin is probably in for .25-.75” of ice off this event.

I know all of that was meant for me.

:hugs:

.75" of ice turns everywhere into a shitshow but thats a very high end estimate.

Picturing hills on the west side (Bee Cave etc) gives me anxiety.

I don't think it will be anything like last years winter storm, but I may go to the store for some things that we already need.

Went to the store at 7 am today and the shelves were bare in Frisco. Got bread, milk and soup so we should be fine.

That thing is gonna get cancelled.

A friend of mine had his 9am DFW-ORD cancelled already. Airports will be a mess.
