the thread is all about the gender identity of the parental role. it's a very fair counterpoint.

Friend of mine (American) lives in Czech Republic and he continually gets stopped at customs when he travels with his young boys. They pull the kids aside and say "soooo does your mother know you're traveling?"

Does he carry their birth certificates and signed permission from the mother? Fathers can never be too careful these days.

what kind of man has sex with a woman and doesn't know she is pregnant or had his kid?

dude sounds like he hit it and quit it and the lady did what she needed to do.

Is equal rights really what they ever wanted?

As someone who's fostered for years, we are only getting the Dad's side of the story. This article shows nothing of the type of parent/man/father that he really is.

Florida has a putative father’s registry. Did he bother to register?

A mother can give up a baby for adoption no matter what the father wants but can also keep it and make him pay for it for 18years orrrr can just kill it if she feels the need.

If a man is equally responsible financially they should be equal in terms of parental rights unless disqualified due to abuse, drugs, unfit parenting or jail.

Seems absurd that the father isn’t asked. Unless she lied and said she wasn’t sure or that he had no interest.

Will be interesting.

Yes. I have sympathy for him if the article is accurate. But I've seen enough adoptive/foster parents fight these battles to know what the usual situation is (an aspirational parent uncommitted/unable to sustain care who repeatedly throws a child's world into crisis by coming/going).

I think both things can be true here - our governments make it a really high/difficult hurdle for good fathers to parent, and that in most of these cases the adoptive parents are in a no win situation and often are the only ones who seemingly have the best interest of the kid in mind.

This thread has done a fantastic job of showing just how far out to sea some folks are on topics that have nothing to do with the OP

Curious if he actually signed the birth certificate. I have a hard time believing this would happen if he had stepped up and signed when the kid was born.

this is assuming he was informed it was happening.

Yea, I definitely have questions.

It sounds bad, but there's a lot more we'd need to know about this story.

I'd start with was his name on the birth certificate? If so, then something went pretty darn wrong here.

If not, then that opens up a whole shite ton of questions you'd need to get to the bottom of to get a better understanding of what happened here before making any sweeping declarations.
