Babysitters can run $100+ per night.

Maybe try eating at somewhere other than Applebee’s if you want a quiet meal?

My mom got compliments at how well behaved her four kids were at restaurants growing up.

We give her a hard time about it now because we were scared to death of her.

Any college town? Find a nursing student, pay them $15 an hour. Rarely are we gone more than 2-3 hours

Yep, we have a college nursing student that only charges $12/hr, but we never pay her less than $60, usually more but if we only paid her what she “charges” we could get away with less than $50.

I wish all waitresses wore them. It would help me to know how much to tip.

Why has nobody thought of a concept of a daycare at a restaurant?

Our City Club (essentially a country club with no golf course) has a daycare in the gym, which can also be used when you eat at the restaurant.

A local eatery charging $15 for the burgers, not so much

Sounds like a burger joint. Did it have a children's menu?

Burger joint? Not family friendly gtfo old man.

Flemings, capital grille, Ruth Chris (even though it’s trash) are a few upscale chain examples.

We tried bringing our very young kids and baby at the time with us once to sit down and order restaurants. We then decided to only go out for rare special occasions.

Just going as a family was just more trouble than it was worth and we figured we’d spare ourselves and those around us

What. The. frick?

You are mad about being at a table near people that have babies? I guess I can just tune shite out. Ive been out to eat many times with friends who brought their babies/young kids.

A reliable babysitter isn't available 24/7 365 and those parents shouldn't have to sit at home because it might upset someone like you. I can't remember a time when I have been in a restaurant and a baby messed up the whole eating experience for me.

I went to Chimes... I think it was the weekend the baseball team played UGA? Anyway, there was what I assumed to be a husband and wife with their 3ish year old kid sitting next to us. The kid would wave to everyone and the mom looked embarrassed, but it was funny.. because it was a 2-3 year old.

Is everyone on this board miserable?

If parents take their kids they need to be responsible and watch them. Ensure they act right. Most parents take kids out to eat and think the kids should just run wild and let them be kid free for 30-60 minutes. Trust me no one wants your kids running wild. If you take them keep them with you at your table and if they act out pay and leave.

- fricking goddamn kids at next table are being loud

And also

-fricking goddamn parents giving kids devices at next table to keep them quiet. Learn to parent!

Is it any less annoying than people having Facetime conversations, talking on speaker phone, allowing their phone to ring with the volume turned all the way up, or talking to the people at their table like they are communicating over a jet engine.

We take ours to eat with us most of the time. We also generally have an escape plan if one of them loses their mind.

If we are going some place nice, we'll get a sitter.

I am an old guy… I like sharing the restaurant with youngsters… I am glad those wheels on the bus are still going round and round.

Try eating at places that are so expensive that parents can't afford to take their kids. You could also try eating very early or late.

Be careful bringing children to restaurants. Our family is huge and the children (not babies od toddlers) are expected to behave. If you have a baby or toddler and it is not happy you absolutely leave, with one parent immediately going to the car and the other settling the bill/having food boxed to go. But what happens is you are then ordering sushi for 5 year olds and escargot for 10 year olds. Or phone calls from in laws asking what an obscure cheese or soup is because a child is asking for it.

Wtf ever happened to getting a sitter

Tell me you don't know how much a sitter costs, without telling me you don't know how much a sitter costs. Its been 10 years since I have had to arrange for one, but at that point going rate wasa $20/hour for one kid. Add an extra $5 per hour/per kid from there. It costs more than the meal.

I love kids, we went to City Pork on Highland for brunch today, a lot of tables had kids. The table next to us had a mom and dad plus 3 boys aged about 3-9 y/o. They were a little antsy but well behaved and I enjoyed listening to the chatter. When they got up to leave, I told dad how proud he must be of his 3 fine boys, he thanked me and left with a smile.

Uncontrolled kids without guidance can be a pain, my own son wasn't restaurant ready until he was about 7, and how we tried at keeping him in a seat. Now he has his own boy who is full of energy. What goes around....

Yeah go frick yourself. I work 60 hours a week, I want to see my kids as much as possible when I’m off.

A good parent would cook at home with the kids. Teaches them many valuable lessons.
