Even with the latest issues, I haven’t heard of tourist being hurt or killed. Cancun is probably safer than most of the top tourist cities in the U.S.

I would just refresh the State department’s travel advisories. It’s likely fine but if there is an increased risk for Cancun it wouldn’t be lumped in generically with pacific coast Mexico

I have been to a "resort" once in Puerto Vallarta. It was basically an average hotel that happened to be on the ocean. We were told "don't leave the resort". I stepped off the resort once and that was to go play golf. Seemed innocent enough until someone at the golf course stole my credit card info and ran up a $2000 bill.

I went to Puerto Vallarta in 2019. We went into town every night. Resort was great, town was great. Never once felt uneasy. And nobody there told us to “don’t leave the resort”. It’s been considered one of the safest tourist cities in Mexico for a while.

I expect, short term, some bad things will happen to innocent people just trying to relax and have a good time. Then, here will come the boom. Iran didn't want to screw around with Reagan. The smart cartel leaders have a dude in the WH that is just asking for a reason. Problem is, the cartel leaders may be smart but they employ are whole bunch of retards.

These are contradictions. Cartels know this administration is itching for a reason to go in and take them out. If they start killing American tourists, the reason will be justified, the response will be swift and vicious. Members of cartels do what they are told. If they are told not to mess with tourists, they won’t. That is the reason cartels are so successful. Puerto Vallarta is filled with tourists right now and no American casualties.

I’ve been to Mexico four times, and not one time voluntarily, all for people looking to have a cheap wedding where all the costs are passed to the guest. frick Mexico. I’ll never return. There are plenty of places to go where the water is drinkable and the cops aren’t looking to shake you down. If you don’t have issues with water or cops, the list of potential threats is long.

LOLat people who think things have changed or gotten more dangerous in Mexico. The danger has always been there. And always will be.

I worked in Mexico in the Yucatan and been out many times by myself where no English was spoken. Cartel owned the bars and clubs. I never once felt danger. Got ripped off at a few bars where I was over charged but whatever. Never had to worry about anything else.

Been to the resort in Cabos. No issues at all there either.

The situation down there is going to be fascinating considering they are hosting World Cup matches in 4 months

Just go to Costa Rica. It’s cheaper, more beautiful, and the risk of random cartel violence inconveniences are 0.0%

Outside of sheer distance related concerns, there is no reason to ever go to Mexico. Plenty of places in Latin America and the Caribbean are better in every way.

Presently in Cancun and left the resort today to go exploring the jungle stuff. Not one thing out of the ordinary. Cancun is way safer than New Orleans downtown. Go. Have fun. That shite is literally 1300 miles away.

Yep, been lots of times in the late 80s and early 90s, definitely a different vibe now. Too many places in Fl for a nice beach trip.

My family got back a little over a week ago. Cruise ship stops at Island of Roatan, Belize, Costa Maya and Island of Cozumel. No problems.

That's not a baw. That's a pussy. The cartels don't go out of their way to kill American tourists. That's fricking stupid. I've been in the same room with cartel members. I didn't go hound them about what they do or don't do. Mind your own business and you don't have to worry. Don't go vacation in Juarez. Go to the resorts and you'll be fine.

It's a 29 hour drive from Jalisco to Cancun. I think you will be alright

Just takes one stupid American tourist who "feels safe" outside the resort and one sub-80 cartel soldier with an itchy trigger finger.

If you’re going by yourself it’s your choice as has been mentioned you assume the risk like driving on North Baton Rouge at night. If others are going and dependent on you, you cancel now.

It's pretty much the same drive from Baton Rouge to Jalisco as it is Jalisco to Cancun.

Just to give you a reference

If I was going to Cancun my MIL would basically think we were getting our heads cut off and put in the road. Because she saw that on TV 10 years ago
