Add all this up and to me that doesn't equal an open economy.

I realize that, which is why I said in most areas. You can still go grocery shopping. You can still fill up your car with gas. You can still go to Best Buy and buy a TV. You can still go out to eat(except in certain cities), you can still go to the mall and buy some blue jeans. Certainly as you listed, there are things that you cannot do, and in most of the things I've listed, there are some restrictions in place. My argument is lifting those restrictions isn't going to be some magic bullet that revives the economy. People are still going to be leery about going out to eat, flying for vacation, taking a cruise, going to concerts, etc. The economy isn't going to get that demand back until the virus is more under control. So just removing restrictions to "open the economy" isn't really going to solve much.

Not really.

Which is why we need to keep all these things shut down. For everyone's safety. Unless they donate enough money to the correct politicians. In which case they can conduct business as normal.

Can you show me where this is?
The only place that, for all intents and purposes, is fully open is South Dakota. Much to the chagrin of Xi Jinping and his lockdown and mask enthusiasts, South Dakota's case curve is practically over:

Right, but I would bet you once September rolls around, they'll just extend the pause on student loans until the end of the year.

What are we doing? Just shite or get off the pot.

Yeah, that is the other thing. I never expected them to extend it, but I guess elections have consequences.

I might stop paying them now that this extension happened and just put that monthly payment somewhere else so it can earn a little. And I'll start paying better attention to this stuff going forward.

I'll always laugh at myself for the 5 seconds I thought there was a chance Biden wouldn't destroy the economy.

Yes, authoritarian Democrats haven't banned these yet.

Maybe you are right. The damage was already done. Not nearly as many businesses to reopen.

You can bet your arse if they let the festivals in South LA roll for festival season this year there would be packed festivals all over the I-10 corridor in Louisiana.

I specifically didn't put flying on the list because it seems to be recovering as people start to become educated on how hard it is for the damn virus to spread in a plane.

So I disagree....if they completely opened the economy I think you would see a recovery really take off and not be slow, and at times stagnant, as it has been so far.

A bar in Welsh LA has been fighting just to stay open because their license was suspended for being open past 11PM. You call that open?

The bar around the corner from me had the state show up last night about 9
They were able to add on a patio just so that they could stay open but had a few people inside ordering when the state showed up
They allowed them to stay open with the agreement that they wouldn’t allow anyone inside, drinks would be ordered at the table

Also, apparently no one is allowed to use the restrooms since it’s inside the bar

getting into a discussion with the "landlords do nothing" is one of those mind-numbing experiences that legit melts brain cells

the concept of risk and investment is literally outside of their understanding, as well as historical examples of public housing. of course THAT isn't the type of public housing they're talking about. that wasn't real public housing

shite, even Trump extended it past the original date.

I have been paying mine this entire time, but I might have to rethink that now. Not sure exactly what the best strategy is.

It's bullshite.

The destruction of people's livelihoods were entirely caused by government-imposed economic sanctions on business activity. On what happens to be an election year.

So basically some landlords are just shite out of luck right? They could potentially have a tenant that hasn’t paid rent for 18 or so months and when this us finally lifted they won’t see any of that $ and can finally evict?

Only that much? Why do you not care about the people you racist bigot?

You are right. Make it an even quarter million per person. Plus... with a modest income tax increase on the very wealthy (Those whose income exceeds say... 10 grand per year) we can pay for this thing easy. The more we give... the more there is to tax and the more income for the government.

If you don’t own rental property, you should be thanking God every day that the government isn’t screwing you with the eviction moratorium.

I'm not sure many will agree with you. The idea is that you open the economy and let people have the freedom to make the decisions they want. This should have happened from the start but instead the virus was a politically useful thing for both parties at times. Government needs to get out of the way and let the free market decide. Most young people I know are going about their normal lives and aren't living in fear like some of you.
