Probably a dumb question, but I assume you simply can't get insurance on a house in a place like GI that'll cover a hurricane, right?

As a good friend of mine who has been a crop duster pilot most of his life has said in regards to insurance for the high risk, "Oh, you can get it, it just costs you an arm and a leg. And don't ever let it lapse."

So these folks who build the $1 million houses, are they just uber rich and don't care if it gets destroyed?

na you can usually get it. but you have to build to certain codes and its expensive. the homes you see with standing seem metal roofs with no or little damage....yea those are them.

they have plexiglass windows or the metal storm coverings amongst other things.

Legend I'm just curious and get if you don't want to answer .. what's your real job? You said you've been off.

My "real" job is working with a couple of machine/fabrication shops, primarily design and setup for different projects. What I do now is primarily work with some friends who run shops doing contract work. I can work the hours I want really, and it varies with how busy they are. This Summer has been pretty good because they are on long-run production that just requires some oversight. I don't even have to go in really unless there's an issue.

I also piddle with some things on the artistic side, which I prefer, but it doesn't pay well enough. I do some custom woodworking and leatherwork.

Yeah, no doubt. And Grand Isle has to be the most resilient town in the Nation. What they endure is just incredible.

I assumed those camps would basically be gone. They were maybe a few miles from landfall at belle passe. Wonder what the port looks like.
