What in the hell are they going to do in Nola/JP for the next 2-4 weeks? People won't be able to evac for a day or 2 at least, but lots won't/can't and you're going to have literally hundreds of thousands of people in an area without electricity, water, etc

I assume something like what they did for Katrina: set up spots where people can get MREs, ice, water, etc.

Still, it's gonna be tough for the people who stayed and can't leave.

I have to imagine the logistics are completely different, with a much larger area of damage and more people affected.

Katrina was much more extreme, but in a mostly evacuated city and in a considerably more confined area.

twitter is all abuzz this morning about how being able to leave shows your privilage, which is fricking stupid. People make terrible choices over and over and that is the reason they are so god damn poor they cant leave. Staying for a cat4 is just another example in a long line of terrible life choices and now they will be bitching about being without power. frick those people.

There are no bounds to the mental gymnastics people will do to avoid personal accountability nowadays. If anyone didn't evacuate, it is on them. One way or another, there is a way to find your way out of harm's way outside of having to be caretaker for someone that is bedridden or a job that requires you to stay.

Like you, I know all to way what these people are going through being from LC. But, at a certain point, people need to understand that they are ultimately responsible for their decisions as harsh as it sounds.

So stupid. If these people's god (government) had functioned properly, evacuation could be free. LAKE CHARLES had free, public evacuation as of like Thursday I think.

even then they are saying its still a privilage because some elderly cant be moved like that and you cant leave pets behind.

WTF...frick your pets and tell grandma Im taking your old arse with me or you can stay here and suffer.

I really dont understand the world some of these peopel lvie in. Totally different than the one you and I live in for sure.

Being gainfully employed does have it's privilege. Some of these people should try it sometime.

Hope all of y'all with home damage find some peace through all of this. Sentimental things cannot be replaced.

Leaving = privilege? It’s actually the mega rich people with nice generators and nice new houses who can and did ride it out.

A general power outage or general power outage has nothing to do with it.

You may have limited, usually 2 weeks under civil authority.

ALE requires the home to be uninhabitable due to “on-premises” damage. A general loss of power or water won’t trigger coverage.

Can't get in touch with peeps that way. Anyone know if the northshore (Rigolets, Eden Isles, etc..) had water from storm surge like Katrina? I think it was far enough west and grand isle blocked some of it, but have no confirmation.

TIA

whats funny is that many comments were talking about how the storm came at a bad time because the checks dont come in the mail for 2 more days.

WTF kind of life do these people live? hopefully they are evacuated and never come back. Hate to say that but frick them helpless shite heads.

on another note, will find out soon if i need to head to NOLA tomorrow to tarp roofs for family. Really hoping to avoid that as much as possible.

They've just been warped to always believe nothing is a person's fault, at least for some things their ideological overlords deem acceptable.

It's a required mental building block.

But I don't want to deal with sandpaper or Tabasco so I'm going to just talk about the local government's failures.

*ETA: to clarify my comments above are about people who are talking about privilege, not the people who didn't evac. I realized after I read the post that it may have come off wrong for some people.

I’m five miles north of Watson. No power. No water. Lot of trees down and debris. I know things can vary based on a few miles difference, but they are probably ok.

And kudos to Verizon for having their crap together.

Seems like most of the OT is okay. Glad for it.

Pretty much all insurance companies had no issue if you had no sewage, as that was considered uninhabitable.

If you didn't say those magic words, it was a very large chance your claim would initially be denied.

Cell carriers pay a lot of money during these events for crews to haul in huge generators to these towers and to keep them running. They pay people like $2000 per week just to take shifts manning the generator watch and refil

It works great until a ton of the parts on your towers get jacked up like what happened to ATT with Laura

On this note, there are still office buildings in LC that only have AC b/c a huge truck outside is running 24/7

I wonder what JP/OP are going to face

Not only do you have to say it, but it has to be true. They will check. They will also only reimburse you at the limit in your policy ($ per day and total). In conclusion, those that are depending on insurance to help, be careful. It’s not what you think.
