Anyone got any info on Oakmont Dr in Belle Terre? Inlaws left but wondering about the house. They have neighbors that stayed but I don't think they'll be able to get in touch with them today.

After Katrina FEMA took over all of the gas stations. You may want to buy extra cans to take with you like we did when we came back 3 weeks later after Katrina.

I’ve always been of the belief a trooper on the side of the road creates more harm than good. Slamming on brakes, changing lanes, etc.

Somehow that’s the troopers fault?

Be sure to include a list of safety precautions for driving and supplies that people need to bring with them. Especially, if they're trying to get to hard hit areas. I live in Orange Beach AL and know first hand how many people try to get back asap but aren't prepared with supplies needed and get stranded due to road closures, downed lines and trees on the road.

Living in Orange Beach for past 30 yrs its The non permanent residents that always drive down without a clue and they end up making travel in worse due to traffic congestion .

If planning to drive into the hard hit areas You need to take as much daily (food and water batteries) and emergency supplies (as possible; medical kits, extra gas, tools, work gloves, chainsaw with g&o, chains, ropes, tire repair kits - jack, air compressor, , tarps, with you .

THIS. I just made a post with this advice since we lived it after Katrina.

Yeah hopefully they aren’t doing random radar and pulling over people going 75. If there are there to help with stuff then fine.

This doesn’t happen in normal times

Maybe they’re out there as a deterrent to people attempting to drive recklessly on the way back to their houses.

Update???

I think I have a big tree on my house…can’t get 100% confirmation yet… but a neighbor down the street couldn’t see the tree anymore that was between my neighbors house and mine…

Just hoping it’s in the backyard and not my house… been my worry since last night when he texted me that info..

Always a worse case guesstimate, but if it came to that I wouldn't be shocked.
