Is this stuff about Jefferson parish likely to have no power or water for 30 days true? Seeing people say that was reported on wwl
That would not be shocking at all.
No water is the golden ticket for ALE insurance, too. Insurance will balk at paying for living accommodations if you just are without power.
*ETA: a mandatory evac order helps, too, but JP/OP dropped the ball there.

yea after laura, we didnt get power until october. over 5 weeks and close to 6 without it. Many places weere atleast 3 weeks.
Its the main tranmission lines that kills the timeline.
But they have gotten much better with the helicopters on fixing those.

Sorry, bro.

Scott Walker was on WDSU while ago. He said those transmission towers could take a long time to get up, but Entergy told him they had could reroute power through different towers. I think the solid answer at this point is “no one knows.”

I expect this will be a national priority and they will be able to improvise something fairly quickly, or else they'll have to do a large scale evacuation after all. You can't have that many people in the dark for weeks.

Wife’s grandfather in Satsuma lost his entire tin roof last night. House is 30-40 years old and seen many hurricanes without this kind of damage.

in the worst hit areas....absolutely. South JP is going to be bad.
yall have to understand....they have to rebuild the main transmission lines. Most of the time due to location those have to be flown in and placed using helicopter and personal have to be dropped by helicopter. its fricking tedious work.
Thats on top of the regular power poles etc.
even after they turn water on, they will be chasing leaks for a while due to downed trees breaking pipes etc.
gonna take a while. Look at laura, katrina, rita as examples. all were like this.

this is why not ordering a mandatory evac was incredibly stupid

My awesome neighbors sent us video of our place in Convent. Patio roof gone, took the bottom row of shingles with it. Lost my 11 year old live oak. Trampoline somehow did not fly away, I tied it down, but it looks like it was crushed into the ground right where I left it. Not sure how that possibly happened.
I’ll take that all day long and be thankful.

I don’t understand why a single thing a city state or federal government official has done the last year and half gives you any hope at all about this.
People will be without power and maybe water for minimum a week in much of SELA and I seriously doubt the government does shite about it

bro all the major past hurricanes were national priorties....and it took weeks to get power back on.
it is what it is and its why we were screaming for people just to leave.
twitter is all abuzz this morning about how being able to leave shows your privilage, which is fricking stupid. People make terrible choices over and over and that is the reason they are so god damn poor they cant leave. Staying for a cat4 is just another example in a long line of terrible life choices and now they will be bitching about being without power. frick those people.
I feel sorry for people as i know as much as anyone what its like, but frick you were given plenty of time and making terrible life choice after terrible life choice is not an excuse.

I was talking about this with the fiancé yesterday.
What in the hell are they going to do in Nola/JP for the next 2-4 weeks? People won't be able to evac for a day or 2 at least, but lots won't/can't and you're going to have literally hundreds of thousands of people in an area without electricity, water, etc.

So stupid. If these people's god (government) had functioned properly, evacuation could be free. LAKE CHARLES had free, public evacuation as of like Thursday I think.

exactly. We have pretty good local officials and a local power plant but laura still knocked out transmission lines from it and coming from texas so couldnt reroute power. was still without for a long time.
JBE fricking sucks donkey dick when it comes to disasters. Trump didnt do shite as he was only worried about getting reelected and Biden hasnt done shite either. SWLA hasnt gotten shite in the way of federal funds.
looks like biden is approving some for this storm but do not be surprised if they shut it off quickly and JBE doesnt do shite. And NOLA has horrible local leadership. Gonna take a long time to recover.
