NEW from @SlidellPD: 'If you evacuated, don’t come back now. Stay where you are. There is no gas, food, resources. In some places off of Bayou Liberty, we had to use boats to rescue people from their rooftops. We are doing high-water rescues now.'

Anything could have happened. Cell towers are probably either down or over loaded. Could also run out of juice on the phone.

I was curious how BR fared in this regard. Entergy outage map shows more customers with power than I expected. It's not always the most accurate map though.

twitter is all abuzz this morning about how being able to leave shows your privilage, which is fricking stupid. People make terrible choices over and over and that is the reason they are so god damn poor they cant leave. S

worst part is they aren’t referring to all the plant and construction baws that live in places like Laplace that lost their house and will be getting called into work in the next few days

Lake Charles has very little activity this morning.

Same for Lafayette.. At least when I drove in at 7:30

Had to be that way with the amount of people who evacuated.

I know the storms in Lake Charles were severe and devastating. But there are actual office buildings that still lack power a year later?

How does Entergy explain that? How does JBE explain that?

I think it's more of a construction/insurance issue and not a civil service issue. The building has power.

No. They have power but the A/C system on a high rise was jacked up. They are using big A/C trucks to cool the building until they repair it.

After Katrina the cell towers went down not long after the storm. I guess they have some type of battery back up. For some reason text was the only form of communication that worked.

I am sure the repairs are complicated as it is an older building and I am willing to bet they have to gut and install something more modern as retrofitting will be difficult.

But it may be an insurance issue which would be sort of ironic since that was built by the Hixons as an office for their Magnolia insurance business.

Some newer ones have standby generators ready and others they haul generators to and crank them up as soon as conditions allow it.

On this note, there are still office buildings in LC that only have AC b/c a huge truck outside is running 24/7

This is mind boggling to me.

I know the storms in Lake Charles were severe and devastating. But there are actual office buildings that still lack power a year later?

How does Entergy explain that? How does JBE explain that?

I know 901 Lakeshore Drive is running the AC chiller via truck on Pithon Street. The chiller on the roof was destroyed by Laura and apparently it takes a long time to get a replacement.

Nothing says solidarity like a bunch of troopers sitting in Tahoes up and down I-10. I just passed the 6th trooper right before the Crowley exit.

They are always looking for Texas phone numbers on the sides of trucks. More, and more, companies are running unmarked trucks to keep them from get stopped, looking for illegal workers.

Memorial and Golden Nugget had trucks coming in everyday pumping water in to get the chillers going to have AC. Memorial brought in large generators that stayed for weeks because they needed two sources of power until city power was back on.

They may want to reconsider that for a bit. No city ever makes much progress after a hurricane without Mexicans and Hondurans. Not being sarcastic either. It's the truth

Ponchatoula resident here. We left and went to my parents in Folsom. There’s a major cell service outage in tangi so you’re probably not going to be able to get messages out. I’m heading home around noon to check on things.
