That's got to be a big part of the convo.

The other thing is, sometimes you gotta pull the trigger even if the storm doesn't exist yet when you have this sort of high end potential sitting out there. The general idea of a major hurricane into southern Louisiana had become pretty obvious by Wednesday afternoon.

Yeah, an earlier flight would have missed what just happened/is happening and just reinforced the false sense of security everyone went to bed with. If anything, the delay was fortunate, and the decision to send 303 in when they did was prophetic.

DISCLAIMER: My opinion is worthless and should not be used in making any decisions to stay or leave if you are in the path. I am simply guessing on the following. I have no weather tracking experience..

Worthless Landfall Prediction:
Category 5
Max Winds 175 mph
Max Gust: 210+
Max Surge: 24 Feet
Location: Grand Isle
Time: 12:34 PM
Heisman: Bijan Robinson

Thoughts and prayers to everyone in the path.. no matter what, this is going to be hard 24 hours, and beyond for a lot of folks. Godspeed to all.

Calling fir a mandatory evac results in governments taking on responsibilities that they don’t currently have the bandwidth to take on.

The real problem is that we have too many in our population who are unable to take care of themselves. Our government created a class of dependents and at this moment decided to stop taking care of them because now it’s hard to do so.

Especially at Latoya. Over 48hrs before landfall and she said there wasn't enough time. There absolutely was.

Yeah but I heard the contra flow thing was decided above her head at the state level. Not sure but that’s what the rumors are.

Anyone else considering leaving BR now after these updates? Am I delirious from reading this stuff all day/overreacting?

I’d only consider staying in BR if I had a generator. Id still be on the fence with leaving though. If you don’t have a generator I’d highly recommend leaving.

Not much, might be a little stronger than you would have expected but you should have expected substantial impacts.

I hope this dumb woman doesn't think that levee will save NOLA. Baton Rouge may be the new NOLA.

Short-term track wobbles now become very important for storm surge and wind impacts in the various towns and cities across SE LA. A subtle eastward shift in the track has persisted all day, and #Ida could now pass very close to New Orleans.

No doubt about it now, Ida is a monster. In their 2am update, NHC said the central pressure dropped 6 millibars in an hour.

Then she should have been on every news channel fighting for her people.

She should have made sure the people knew who was responsible for not helping her city and her people

Projections earlier were Cat 1 conditions but now you can probably expect Cat 2 conditions.

it’s very strange the local media have generally been quick to tell people it could be bad but the WWL tv weather guy was shockingly non chalant about the risk to New Orleans

I’m over it. We get what we deserve. Look at the elected leadership and the people and culture of the city and surrounding areas. We rebuilt that place 16 years ago. Maybe we would all be better off if we never did. I won’t do it again. My new thought is if we survive this where will I relocate my family.

That’s a thought I never ever imagined I would have. Ever. I’m sorry I know that’ll get downvoted. But what the frick this situation is just terrible

Eventually those rumors will get figured out. But they dropped the ball on this one

On the other hand, big shout out to the NHC. Despite everything that went on today with the storm they stuck with their prediction, and as of now it's dead accurate.

I'm actaully quite fortunate to have had to work a night shift tonight. Had I not, I would've been lulled into a false sense of security. Now, I've been able to warn my family to leave ASAP (which they are) and start planning my own route out of town once I get off of work. Kudos to yall, really appreciate all of the updates

I've been lurking this thread all day. The past few hours have been beyond surreal. Just to watch this thing blow up like it has. It's really petrifying.

Going to hit my knees and say a prayer for you posters, and your families, that are in harms way. Please be safe and, if you're able to, check-in in the coming days.
