If you could, why would you not get the frick out??
people dont want to leave their homes. even when they can literally die. the amount of posters on this board who are in the direct path of this storm talking about riding it out is so insane to me

So it really is an eastward shift!?!? Been watching it and didn’t think that was it. New Orleans, better watch out. One of my favorite cities. Got pics before they took statues down

if someone is still there should they try and leave?
This doesn't really change your previous calculations.

and at this point...I'd leave if I lived on the westbank
Anywhere on the westbank? There are areas mostly close to the expressway of Gretna/Terrytown/ Harvey that had little damage after Katrina and no flooding. Obviously southern most parts and near the River should be long gone by now .

I'm actaully quite fortunate to have had to work a night shift tonight. Had I not, I would've been lulled into a false sense of security. Now, I've been able to warn my family to leave ASAP (which they are) and start planning my own route out of town once I get off of work. Kudos to yall, really appreciate all of the updates

It's not for me but a family member

There is a very important discussion about emergency management to come out of this, but tonight ain't the time.
Absolute tragedy that not even a single effort was made by public services to help the disabled or elderly residents that don't have anyone and will be now going through extreme mental anguish (if not worse) alone because a-hole political leaders in Louisiana are more concerned about getting the right to buy LSU Football tickets when they play in the National Championship in New Orleans than putting together a critical assistance plan in this "sudden developing" storm scenario.
I remember being on I-10 during Katrina and busses and busses of nursing homes and hospital patients were getting police escorts to higher ground before the storm. That was light years better than any effort made this time.

Should I get the frick out of WBR with the wife and kids? Kids are young.

I’m in St Gabriel and we planned on staying at my parents house in oak hills. I’m starting to feel uneasy now about this storm and I’m thinking about telling my dad let’s drive to Brandon,MS in the morning and stay with our family up there. Would it be too late to leave in the morning if we decide that?

I’d only consider staying in BR if I had a generator. Id still be on the fence with leaving though. If you don’t have a generator I’d highly recommend leaving.
My biggest worry right now in BR/Prairieville is if this uncontrolled strengthening is going to push potential wind speeds to a point where they might blow roofs off. That Euro run that was posted earlier with all of the numbers over 100 mph on it in the BR area spooked the shite out of me, as it did some others here.
If someone can reasonably assure me that I will still have a roof, even with some winds that might be higher than we anticipated, then I will sleep much better tonight.

Can anyone tell me what impact this change will have on Prairieville?
Not much, might be a little stronger than you would have expected but you should have expected substantial impacts.
I’m I Prairieville also, what exactly is the expectation here? Any idea regarding rain, wind and flooding?

I feel like the risk is everyone deciding to leave in the morning cause bumper to bumper traffic.

My dad is in NOLA and plans on leaving at 6 AM. I don’t know how that’s gonna happen. I’m shaking right now

It is the same problem that all teenage boys have.. and also one that we carry with us as men later into life. One simple phrase..
“That won’t happen to me.”
And until it happens, or until something scares the shite out of you, you roll the dice a lot more than you should.. we all do it, just in different ways.

I don’t know. Many, many of my friends and my wife’s relatives are in New Orleans right now, in houses surrounded by large trees in wet soil. I don’t know why so few left the city for this storm.

I heard the contra flow thing was decided above her head at the state level. Not sure but that’s what the rumors are.
They don’t have the manpower to enforce it I guarantee you was a major part of the problem. The government created a massive problem since last March and this hurricane is about to expose damn near every single aspect of that problem in the gulf south

Pretty much.
They'll probably be fine, but with the potential of maybe getting a Cat 5 kind of surge and the approach angle, there is potential for catastrophe down there from surge. Small chance, but enough that I wouldn't want to roll those dice.
