My dad is in NOLA and plans on leaving at 6 AM. I don’t know how that’s gonna happen. I’m shaking right now

I would anticipate that there will at least be gusts above tropical storm force by then. I would not wait until 6am to leave.

IDA now a dangerous Cat 4 storm approaching the northern gulf coast of LA. Additional strengthening is likely. If you you live in the greater NOLA time is running out to evacuate. Wide spread wind damage and power outages will be likely

So it ended up that we did happen to have recon for the key moment tonight. That last one in the early evening showing a closed eyewall was the harbinger of what was to come

Yeah, an earlier flight would have missed what just happened/is happening and just reinforced the false sense of security everyone went to bed with. If anything, the delay was fortunate, and the decision to send 303 in when they did was prophetic.

ok thanks for the clarification

I can’t believe I actually considered staying. I’m shook right now. I legit think I won’t have a home to go back to. I’m worried about all my neighbors and family who didn’t leave. I’m mad actually, that people stayed.

Pretty much.

They'll probably be fine, but with the potential of maybe getting a Cat 5 kind of surge and the approach angle, there is potential for catastrophe down there from surge. Small chance, but enough that I wouldn't want to roll those dice.

Duke - Correct me if I am wrong, but even if Ida makes Cat 5, won’t the surge likely be less than Katrina? She was moving so much water when she finally made landfall, whereas Ida maybe won’t be moving as much since she just recently became a major?

I mean they didn’t cancel a Saints preseason game on Saturday until Friday. Hard to fathom how it took so long to cancel the game. It’s a small thing but it is a signal to the city how serious this is and should have happened Thursday at the latest.

I am trying to think of a situation worse than being in an airplane that is having mechanical issues in the middle of a hurricane. Nothing immediately comes to mind.

Nola got the west side of Katrina as a Cat3/4.

Now we’re going to get the east side of a Cat5? I don’t know that the city survives this.
