I've called everyone I know that stayed in Houma and Thibodaux and all of them fricking idiots are staying. I'm straight fricking angry right now.

I know man. I tried my best and that’s all I could do. They had a free place to stay here in Mobile and everything.

I'm interested to see what the updated models will project about inland intensity now that Ida is so much stronger. Many of them already had close to Cat 1 winds around the BR area.

I tried every trick, they basically said 'we don't think it will be that bad'. I quoted Zach and Duke and still. Fine don't listen to me, listen to two pros. Nope.

There is a very important discussion about emergency management to come out of this, but tonight ain't the time.

Here’s the thing those discussions were had after Katrina. Plans were formulated to prevent this shite and they still didn’t follow them. There is going to be lots of finger pointing after this one.

Do y’all get the impression that more people than normal decided to ride this one out? That’s kind of what it seems like to me - that life has been such a drag these last 18 months and traveling with COVID kind of sucks, so more people were just like “frick it”.

I think so. Everyone just seems exhausted. And it’s very strange the local media have generally been quick to tell people it could be bad but the WWL tv weather guy was shockingly non chalant about the risk to New Orleans and was saying Thursday night Baton Rouge would have worse weather than New Orleans. New Orleans has been in the cone for this storm since pretty much the first cone.

I have family that lives off of Bonnabel. They have a generator but I’m worried for them still. Should I wake them up and convince them to get out?

Realize at this point, everything is actually pretty in line with the forecast (up to this exact point in time). It's assuming Ida continues to rapidly strengthen that you can start upping the category further inland.

But at this point, it's kind of academic for BR.

The concern right now is anyone who stayed in the far south parishes and at this point...I'd leave if I lived on the westbank.

Especially at Latoya. Over 48hrs before landfall and she said there wasn't enough time. There absolutely was.

The fricked-up thing is that Ida will make landfall exactly 16 years to the day as Katrina.

I can’t fricking believe we’re about to go through this shite again.

I won’t be surprised to see a forecast of a solid cat 2 near Baton Rouge.

reposting in case someone needs to see this.

This website has given me a $1,000,000 worth of incredible entertainment and laughs since I stumbled onto it years and years ago.

Even though I moved away from Southern Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina - this site always helped me feel a connection I need and less homesick.

With that said, any Baws that are reading this now and on the fence if they should leave.

There is zero traffic right at this moment and plenty of decent hotel rooms in Houston for under $100. If money is tight, I'll dox myself and send you the $100 to leave - get the hell out of there for your peace of mind and at best case scenario - it is just a waste of time driving.

Leave now if you can. It is a good window to put your phone or computer down and get in your car and go!

I've gotta try to get a few hours sleep.

I'm not even dealing with the landfall tomorrow like most of you folks, but I probably won't do much sleeping. I'll say a prayer for you all. Just be safe, stay as calm as possible, and try to make the best decision you can. All you can do is all you can do.

Anyone else considering leaving BR now after these updates? Am I delirious from reading this stuff all day/overreacting?

This storm is like the perfect storm.

1. Forecasted Cat 4 but only Cat 2 at bed time so people get complacent.

2. Blows up while people are sleeping and then people panic.

3. Perfect atmosphere for intensification

4. High Tide landfall.

Praying for everyone.

I can’t chastise or look down on people for staying. I would do the same, I would send loved ones away, and try to “weather” the storm. I can’t condemn anyone for staying, unless they kept babies

Both my 80 year old mom and brother would take absolutely no advice from me to get the frick out on Friday evening. Now I’m sitting here 2000 miles away reading these posts and getting very sad and angry at the same time. If you could, why would you not get the frick out??
